A couple from the UK were given a surprise of a lifetime when strangers on Facebook joined together for a great cause.
Marisha Chaplin and Jon Hibbs from Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, met when they were both cancer patients at a hospital in England. The couple were unable to have a child of their own naturally due to their diagnoses and had to turn to IVF to start a family. The procedure worked for Marisha and Jon, as they welcomed a baby girl in 2016.
The couple were looking to expand their family even more and have a second child, but could not afford the cost of IVF the second time around. This is where the power of social media came into play. When the couple's story surfaced on Facebook, a group of 75 women joined together to create a Facebook group called "May Babies 2016" and raised the money to help out Marisha and Jon in paying for the second round of IVF.
The generous women were able to raise 2,000 British Pounds, equivalent to nearly $2,600, and surprised the couple with the news. “I couldn’t get my head around it! I was in absolute shock”, said Marisha to the BBC in response to what it was like getting the news of the donation. The treatment itself cost exactly the amount that was donated, leaving the couple having to pay nothing out of pocket.
The two broke down in tears when they discovered the treatment was covered by the generous act of these women on Facebook, and they could not have been more thankful. After a couple of months passed, the couple took to their own Facebook page to share some exciting news themselves! The two posted a video sharing the news that they were officially expecting a baby.
The second round of IVF was a major success, and the couple could not be more excited. Not only are they expecting their second child, but they are having a baby boy! We absolutely love hearing stories like this, where strangers come together to help those in need.
We wish Marisha and Jon nothing but the best, and send our love to this amazing group of women who came together and did something so beautiful.
