Trigger: Mention of child death.
If you're a parent, you already know that your primary job is to love and care for your children. They're vulnerable to all of life's dangers, so we as parents need to help and teach them a lot of things. This is true regardless of how old your children are- whether they're infants, toddlers, and/or school age. Depending on their age, your child may have to rely solely on you- their parents- to keep them alive and well. But sometimes, parents will suddenly do the unthinkable to their own flesh and blood.
A British man has been arrested on suspicion of beating his 18-month-old daughter to death in a five-star Almaty, Kazakhstan hotel. The incident was discovered at about 7AM local time late last week inside the family's hotel room. This was after the toddler's mother ran into the Intercontinental Hotel lobby screaming her head off. None of the individuals involved- not the child or either of her parents- have been identified in the media and an autopsy is currently underway on the little girl.
"We can’t give all the information, the information is confidential. Girl, she’s about a year old. We later found out that she died in the hospital," explained Aliya Dauletova, director of Intercontinental Hotel's sales and marketing department.
The Almaty Police Department later spoke of the matter, saying, "On October 26, the court sanctioned a measure of restraint in the form of detention for two months. A British citizen is suspected of committing a crime under paragraph 3 of part 2 of article 99 - Murder of a person known to be in a helpless state, as well as involving the abduction of a person or hostage taking." But as of now, they've not added on to this statement.
For its part, the United Kingdom's Foreign Office has said that that they're in contact with Kazakhstan police since the man's arrest. It's unknown if the man will face the charges in his home country or in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where the murder allegedly took place. It's going to take a lot of time before we get some answers to the many questions that have come from this senseless tragedy.
In the meantime, our thoughts are with the young victim and her surviving family.
