Doctor Retires After Delivering Over 9,000 Babies

Dr. Hector Del Castillo Jr., from Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, stepped down from being a "baby doctor" on September 7th, 2018. He had been practicing medicine and delivering babies for over 25 years, but recently he delivered his final baby out of over 9,000.

The staff at the hospital decided to surprise Dr. Del Castillo after delivering his final baby before stepping down. He left the room after a successful delivery and the staff stood outside clapping and cheering for him and his big achievement.

When Dr. del Castillo came out to hear his staff cheer and clap, he tried very hard to contain his tears as he was sad to be leaving. Dr. Castillo has decided to continue practicing as a gynecologist, but he will no longer be delivering babies. Castillo said that he thought that even though he has had to work for long hours, receive phone calls in the middle of the night, and has had uncertain schedules, he wouldn't change it for the world. He truly loved his job and he loved helping bring babies into this world. "It is the best job you can have. I honestly can tell you that I've never felt like I was having to go to work," Dr. Del Castillo said. "There isn't anything better that you can be doing as a doctor other than bringing fresh life in and making sure everyone's healthy". Castillo shared that the most babies that he has ever delivered in one day was a whopping 18!

We love how much Dr. del Castillo loved his job. He shared that he believed that helping deliver a baby was the absolute most wonderful and essential services that he could offer to any pregnant woman. Even though he loved delivering babies, his wife wanted him to step down so he could spend more time with his very own family. He decided to stop being a "baby doctor" and chose to be a gynecologist. He loved doing what he did, but he chose to put his family before his career from now on. Thank you, Dr. del Castillo, for all of your hard work and your sacrifices.

We are wishing Dr. del Castillo the best in his retirement, and are sure that all of the moms and babies that he has helped will be doing the same!
