This baby was mesmerized by a doctor's singing to the point that she forgot she was having her blood taken.

Soothing a child can feel like one of the hardest things in the world, especially when that child is too young to be able to communicate in what will become the normal ways later on in his or her life. Parents will have fed them, changed them, burped them, yet the tears and the screaming continue.

The inability to communicate works both ways. While a distressed baby can't always tell its parents what's wrong, a parent can't explain to their baby that even though something uncomfortable is about to happen, it's perfectly normal. Vaccinations and blood tests, for example. Something babies will have a few of very early on in life, but hearing their cries when getting poked with needles never gets any easier.

Some doctors have a trick or two up their sleeves which will help soothe babies. We have never seen anything quite like the methods of Dr. Ryan Coetzee, of Raigmore Hospital in Scotland, though. Dr. Coetzee is a classically trained singer, and in the video below, he puts that talent to good use to mesmerize ten-month-old Gracey as she is having her blood taken.

Gracey's mom posted the clip on Facebook and it has so far been viewed more than 50,000 times. Dr. Coetzee opts for Nat King Cole's 'Unforgettable' and clearly, Gracey is a big fan. "Nothing can calm her or soothe her, as she is too young to have numbing cream. Until we met Ryan," Gracey's mom told Storyful. Gracey was born with Down syndrome and has already had surgery on her heart and kidneys, so she has had to have blood taken more than most ten-month-olds.

As for the singing doctor, using his voice isn't something he reserves for Gracey. Since he works in pediatrics, Dr. Coetzee revealed via a statement from the hospital that he has always sung to his patients. This is the first time his voice has gained any sort of public notoriety though, and he now has people asking him if he's The Singing Doctor.
