Eddie Redmayne welcomes second child with wife Hannah Bagshawe and the baby’s name is a little unconventional!

The Theory of Everything star and his wife, Hannah Bagshawe have welcomed their second child together, all while choosing to go a different way with their first son’s name. The 36-year-old’s wife gave birth to their first son last Saturday, March 10, 2018, making their 21-month old daughter an official big sister.

The actor announced the birth of their son and revealed the newborn boy's name: Luke Richard Bagshawe. The actor told The Times newspaper in an official statement regarding the birth, saying: “On 10^th March 2018 to Hannah (Bagshawe) and Edward, a son, Luke Richard Bagshawe, brother to Iris.”

Although the name may sound just fine, there is something unconventional about the naming tradition in the Redmayne family. Their first daughter, Iris, took her father’s surname Redmayne, all while their second born has taken his mother’s surname, Bagshawe. In this case, both of the parents’ surnames have made it onto the next generation, although somewhat unconventional, it’s very forward thinking.

The couple welcomed their first daughter in June 2016, after having been married for nearly two years. The couple said their “I dos” in December 2015 at a private members club Babington House in Somerset. Nearly two years later, they have officially welcomed their second child, a baby boy.

It was revealed to Mail Online that the actor and wife Hannah were “delighted to confirm they are expecting their second child.” One surprise the two were in for was the sex of their second child, keeping it a secret from themselves until his birth. “It’s gonna be a surprise. I’m going to be honest. I was like ‘Maybe we should find out’, my wife’s like, and ‘We’re not finding out’" Redmayne said, revealing that they didn’t know they were expecting a boy until the birth.

The happy couple could not be more thrilled with their expanding family, and Redmayne admitted he “loves being married.” “I feel so settled in my skin. So lucky to have the most wonderful, supportive, beautiful wife,” said Redmayne in an interview.
