After an influx of negative messages on social media, Emily Ratajkowski made an empowering post clapping back at the mom shamers.
Posting to her Instagram Story, the model said that society is “reflecting” on its treatment of Britney Spears as a mother in the early 2000s. But she says that most folks still aren’t understanding the message, since many celebrity moms continue to be judged by the public.
“We talk about how we have to ‘do better’ as a culture,” Emily wrote. “Meanwhile, my comments are filled with awful remarks about how I don’t deserve to be a mom. Shame on you all.”
The post, which was made on July 16th, included a selfie of the Gone Girl actress taken in a vehicle. Emily was dressed in a boldly patterned dress with dark sunglasses hiding her face. She continued on to say that becoming a mom, in general, is “incredible scary.”
The mother-of-one added that no one deserves to hear that they’re a bad parent, especially from complete strangers.
Us Weekly reports that Emily’s message comes a month after she was criticized for holding her 4-month-old son, Sylvester, in one arm while wearing matching swimsuits. Many comments accused the model of holding her baby wrongly, with some even saying she was putting him in danger.
In fact, Piers Morgan even tweeted Emily to tell her, “That’s not how you hold a baby.” He also alleged she shouldn’t be encouraging her followers to hold their children in the same way. Since then, Us Weekly notes the star has turned off comments on images featuring her son.
Emily originally announced her son’s arrival with a sweet post made to Instagram on March 11th. The photo showed the We Are Your Friends star breastfeeding the baby. In the caption, she revealed he was born several days earlier on the 8th. She also confirmed his name, Sylvester Apollo Bear.
This is the model’s first child with her husband, actor, and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. The couple married in February 2018 in a New York City courthouse ceremony after several weeks of dating. They split their time between New York and Los Angeles.
Emily revealed her pregnancy last October during an essay for Vogue. At the time, the London native said she and her husband would not be forcing gender stereotypes on their child.
She later confirmed the news on her own Instagram page, which features 27.9 million followers, by sharing a photo of herself cradling her burgeoning baby bump. In the caption, she said that she already had dreams of her baby and couldn’t help but wonder who they would become.
