Pregnant Kat Von D is facing severe backlash after announcing that she will not be vaccinating her unborn child. Fans, or former fans, of the tattooed reality-star-turned-beauty-mogul, are boycotting her popular makeup line due to her beliefs.
There is possibly no greater argument in the "mommy wars" than what to do when it comes to vaccinating a child and both sides of the debate have very strong opinions. Recently, the decision to not vaccinate a child has been seen as more and more harmful, as many have commented that this practice can endanger the life of the child in question and the lives of others. Those who choose not to vaccinate cite concerns about harming the child's immune system, or being worried about toxins that may exist in vaccines and the long-term impact of the drugs.
In an Instagram post, Von D personally announced that her child will not be vaccinated. She also said that will be having an all-natural drug-free birth. Her post started by acknowledging the pitfalls of having a public pregnancy, "I knew the minute we announced our pregnancy that we would be bombarded with unsolicited advice."
She did not say how she came to the decisions that she has made, but she clearly stated that she has no time for any haters or for those who have anything negative to say. The response to her vaccine choice was swift, drawing criticism almost immediately. Adding to the controversy, Von D said that she and her husband will be raising their child as a vegan. Fans were not loving that comment either.
Beauty site Marie Claire shared tweets to prove that some makeup users are done with Von D and her products. Some fans made their boycott well known and made sure that Kat was aware of exactly why they would no longer be purchasing her products.
As a public figure, Von D's decision has clearly drawn the attention of others, but when she gives birth she has a right to raise her child however she pleases. Still, she should be aware of the effects that her decision has on her business and her public persona.
