A baby's first steps is one of the milestones that are close to a parent's heart. Knowing this, when an Austin man discovered a precious home video of a baby boy's first steps in 1994, he was decided to return it to the family.

After a weekend social media search, Jim McKay managed to reach out to the rightful owner of the video – TyRe, the boy in the video, who’s now a 26-year-old educator from Austin. And on Sunday night, he wrote on Facebook, Oh my God TyRe just called me!! We freaking found him ya’ll!!!”

It all started when McKay bought a VCR at the Cedar Park Goodwill store months ago, as a prop for an old film project. After lying around in the house for a few days, when he finally played the VCR, he found an extraordinary memory inside. McKay said, “It was big. It was big. I watched the whole thing. It was just 18 minutes of just glorious family time and it was amazing. It was such a cool, beautiful moment that I had to do something with it. Something I couldn’t just say, 'This is amazing.' Stick it in a box and forget about it. These people are young enough to still be alive. Maybe they’d like to see it.” On January 4, he started his quest on Facebook, asking the public to share it where they could.

Within 24 hours, the clip went viral and reached the local TV stations. Tyre’s mom recognized the video the moment she saw it and informed quickly reached out to her son.

On a special morning show on TODAY Wednesday, TyRe Alexander finally got to thank McKay, for bringing back the cherished family memory. He said, “I haven't seen me, my dad and brother in a room for a long time. To see that and to see all that love and everything that took me back to a place I could never go without having that tape."

McKay could understand the emotions as he’s a father as well. "It was really emotional actually seeing that. I recognized it for what it was. People didn't film everything like they do now, it was a big moment. They set up that camera, hoping they would catch that and they did," he said.

Recalling his mother's excitement when she first saw the video on-air, Alexander said that his mom called him and said, "Hey you're on the news right now, you're walking as a baby!” It filled her with memories. She could recognize the house, the living room – she was the one to set up the camera. The grown-up baby said, "She was like, 'Those are my cubs,' because she's mama bear. She instantly called me, that was her first instinct to call me and give me that memory."

Alexander believes McKay had found "gold" for him, and just like McKay, he too wants to "make people smile.”
