The fourth trimester is something that not very many people talk about. Even experienced moms sometimes don't mention the fourth trimester.

For me, I haven't wanted to talk about it because it sometimes feels like if I complain about the stage then I would come off as ungrateful for my baby. I am here to tell you that it is okay to talk about the fourth trimester. The fourth trimester is the post-partum stage of motherhood.

After you have a baby you are dealing with a lot of changes. After having a baby you are dealing with recovery. Not only are you dealing with pushing a baby out of your body, but you are also recovering from being pregnant for 9 months. Your uterus is shrinking, your hips are trying to go back in place, your boobs are leaking and filling up with milk, and many people are dealing with hemorrhoids. You bleed for 4-6 weeks.

Then your hormones are all out of whack. When your hormones change so rapidly like after having a baby you lose your hair, you get acne, you have trouble sleeping and you might even have headaches. I get such bad headaches for about 4-6 weeks. One of the weirdest symptoms is constantly sweating. I was sweaty and clammy for about 3 weeks with each baby. You don't feel like yourself and it is weird.

Not only is the new mother struggling with herself she is also trying to figure out her new baby. I am a mother of four kids. With every child, the first month and a half is really hard. The baby never wants to be put down because they have been so used to being in your stomach. It is hard for them to be away from mom. The baby just wants to be snuggled and warm all the time. For the first time, they are feeling the sensation of being hungry and they are trying to learn how to digest. Babies have to learn how to poop. Just imagine having to poop while laying down on your back. That would be hard work. Babies learn how hard it is to be a human and sometimes that makes them very upset.

The fourth trimester is a lot of hard work for both mom and baby. There is a lot of things that must be learned and it is quite exhausting. It is completely normal to feel tired, overwhelmed and underqualified. My fourth baby is currently 2 months old and she is still struggling through this stage. She always wants to be held, loves being swaddled, hates being cold and wants to be rocked all the time. For all of those women out there who are struggling through the first few months of having a newborn, you are not alone!
