Union has been vocal about her tough journey to motherhood, which has been full of struggle, heartbreak, and constant disappointment. The Being Mary Jane star had spent her life not wanting to have children. Then she married the professional basketball player in 2014, gaining an instant family. She has proudly admitted that being a stepmom not only changed her mind about being a mother but created her desire to be one.
In her book We're Going to Need More Wine, Union shared that she had some severe fertility struggles. The actress suffered nine miscarriages during her three-year IVF journey. She explained she spent those years focused on IVF and conceiving a baby. Her body was either preparing for IVF, in the middle of an IVF cycle or coming out of an IVF cycle.
Despite being under the constant scrutiny of pregnancy rumors and plagued with people telling her she was too old to conceive a child, Union never gave up hope. Last summer at a BlogHer conference, the first-time mom, admitted her fertility journey had ended due to a condition called adenomyosis. It is a form of endometriosis that affects the uterus.
The news that Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade have welcomed their first child together via a surrogate was shocking to fans. They had not given any indication to the public that they were expanding their family. Honestly considering everything they have been through to have a baby, who can blame them for keeping quiet.
Congrats to Union and Wade. The dream of having a child has finally come true for the couple.
