Gabrielle Union Launches Baby Capsule Collection Inspired By Her 'Shady Baby'

Actress Gabrielle Union has launched a baby collection for New York & Company. The children’s brand - Kaavi James by Gabrielle Union - was inspired by her vivacious daughter Kaavia and her notorious Instagram personality #ShadyBaby.

The exciting fashion debut boasts a dynamic mother-daughter collaboration. Essence declares that Kaavia, one of the cutest and spunkiest babies in Hollywood is following in her mom’s footsteps with her first capsule collection for babies rocking sizes zero to 24 months - with unisex designs.

With Kaavia inspiring the new label, it’s only fitting that the pieces are vibrant, whimsical and hip. Retailing from $14.95 to $44.95, the collection ranges in sizes 0 to 24 months and features “mommy and me” pieces, denim chambray, fleece in pants or coveralls, and cotton voile printed dresses. Leopard, stripes, and polka-dot patterns are bold, spirited and vibrant - parading a terrific caboodle!

Union shares that her new enterprise reflects where she is right now in her life and she felt that diversifying was a natural progression. The dynamite creative has been designing clothing for women since August of 2017 with New York & Company’s Gabrielle Union Collection. She describes her line as fun, flirty, functional and fly," but its cachet is that the apparel is comfortable and affordable. Union also wants her designs to be indicative of powerful women, as they can’t take over the world in clothes they don’t feel carefree in.

Union and her husband, basketball star Dwyane Wade became parents on November 7, 2018 via surrogate. Kaavia was indeed their miracle baby as the couple struggled to conceive for many years. Parents reported on Union’s candid sentiments, “I felt like I was not only disappointing myself and my spouse but all the people who’d hung a lot of hope on us. I felt like a complete loser and failure.” What Union experienced was so profound that it motivated her to write a book.

Union’s book, We're Going To Need More Wine, is quite forthright about her struggle - disclosing that she had suffered over eight miscarriages in recent years. When Kaavia made her grand entrance into the world, Union professed she felt such relief. “To hear her breathing and crying was a dream. We didn’t really allow ourselves to believe it until then.”

Now The Being Mary Jane actress, 46, is rocking motherhood and a propelling career. Union explains, “This has been the divine coming to fruition. Kaavia has allowed us to dream bigger and wider than we ever have before.” It’s fitting that #shadybaby and the word ‘dream’ are at the heart of their lively T-shirt and onesie designs.


Moving forward the Union confides that she aspires that her daughter will experience plenty of joy and adventure and that, she and Wade will discover how to balance having full careers and raising kids. As for the future, she hopes her life will be a little more full and rich.
