Gabrielle Union Shares Video About Her Journey To Motherhood For Her Daughter's 1 Month Birthday

Gabrielle Union celebrated the 1-month birthday of her daughter Kaavia James Wade by sharing an emotional video about her journey to motherhood.

The actress did not hold back in the video, which she posted to her Instagram account on Monday. She shared footage of Kaavia's birth, as well as some critical events that led Union and husband Dwyane Wade meeting their precious angel.

Union revealed that her fertility struggle was not about getting pregnant, it was about her ability to carry the baby to term. She explained that holding the baby became her stumbling block and led her to be diagnosed with adenomyosis.

Cant stop, won't stop. 💋👶🏾@kaaviajames 💛❤💙💚🧡💜 Here's a guide for happily enjoying my posts of our family. Trust that she is surrounded by medical and child care specialists. Know she is safe and watched closely at all times. Trust that I won't post anything that puts my child in danger or opens me up to unsolicited online medical or parenting opinions 🤗 @kaaviajames is loved. She will be kissed. She will be loved on by the people that love her. She will be safe. If and when I have questions (as a new mom I have tons) I will not hesitate to ask my online community for help and suggestions. But yall have never known me to hold my tongue so trust that I will ask for help. Sometimes publicly and sometimes privately. Its OK that every parent does things differently to suit their child's needs. Every solution that works or worked for you may or may not work for me or my family or other folks. And that's absolutely OK. If someone does things differently or does not take your advise or that advise doesnt pan out the way it did for you, that is NO indication that you are wrong or a bad parent. We all figure out what works for us, our children and our families. We dont all have to match. It's ok to break from the norm and do what's healthiest and safest for your child. No one is in your house or your family but YOU. We dont all need to be clones of each other to be doing OK. The goal is for us all to have happy healthy families and that journey looks different for every family. Let's embrace that. Let's get comfortable with that. Someone doing something different than us does not make us bad people or bad parents. Breathe and enjoy. There will be no mommy shaming on this page. I rebuke mommy shaming. For those STILLLLL clinging onto your fears about Kaav's breathing and or whether my sweet kisses harmed my kid...feel free to swipe.

Her condition is a form of endometriosis where the endometrial tissue exists within and grows into the uterine wall. It makes staying pregnant extremely difficult and was the cause of Union's multiple miscarriages.

Wade and Union did not let her condition stop them from dreaming of having their own family. They decided to hire a gestational carrier, just like Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West. Their surrogate carried their own embryo, so she has no genetic ties to their daughter.

Along with footage of their baby shower, the couple also shared the first moment they met their daughter. They were in the delivery room when Kaavia was born, via C-section. The couple also sends a lovely message to their baby girl. The actress and basketball player both express their joy, happiness, and gratefulness to have had their journey have a happy ending.

The entire video is just over 8-minutes long and worth every minute. However, grab some tissues because it is a tearjerker. One especially heartwarming moment is when Gabrielle Union talks about how she was concerned she would not bond with her baby because she did not carry her. That insecurity went right out the window the second she saw her daughter.

Dwyane Wade also has a teary-eyed moment when he explains the misconception of surrogacy, especially among celebrities. He sets the record straight on that, as well as shared that there is no one specific path to motherhood. Wade is completely right. Each path is different, and people should not be judged for their path.

There is no doubt Union was put through the wringer on her journey to motherhood. Now though, she can move forward and focus on her beautiful family.
