Toddler's 'Happy Birthday Loser' Cake Faux Pas Inspires Hilarious Internet Reactions

"Happy birthday, loser" may sound like a sort of funny line in a pretty alright comedy, but for one toddler it was actually written on her birthday cake. Now, both the delicious treat and her clearly unhappy reaction have gone viral.

According to Scary Mommy, Melin Jones wanted to get her daughter Liz a cake that read "Happy Birthday, Lizzard", off her nickname. So, she went to Walmart and asked for just that. Unfortunately, there must have been a miscommunication, and the cake spelled out something much worse. Instead of a cute happy birthday message, Jones got a cake that, to a teenager would be funny, but for a toddler, might be mistaken as mean. In a rush, Jones left without reading the pastry and only seeing it until it was too late. So, with no going back from there, she just rolled with it, creating an instant meme in the process.

Ok so some of you remember Liz’s birthday cake accident from last year but I posted about it today in a group I’m in and...

The cake was actually made last year, but due to popular demand, she shared it publically, and since then, the hilarious cake and the even more hilarious reaction has become a sensation online. Yet, according to Jones, it wasn't so funny in the moment. It's not hard to see why. Birthdays are a big deal regardless of age, and this child looks really upset.

“So here’s my baby and her loser cake. It’s funny now but I was mad,” writes the mom (in a post we edited for grammatical purposes).

Still, even though a child's birthday was seemingly ruined, the internet will be the internet, and now anyone can wear this now-classic line as a fashion statement. At The Roving House, memesters can pick up a pin in the shape of the cake that they can take wherever they go. To some, it might make no sense, but it's just weird enough that even people who don't get it can get a chuckle ironically.

All is well that ends well, however. While the moment itself was pretty frustrating at the time, Jones says Walmart made sure to offer a new cake, one that is much nicer to look at. Yet, while the second cake is probably closer to what the family wanted for their young daughter, it probably won't get the attention the original cake got.
