Now that the holiday season has arrived, part of the royal family have left their home country and ventured someplace else for their vacation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their young son, Archie, recently landed in Canada.

Queen Elizabeth is spending the next couple of days in Sandringham while Prince Philip is still under observation at a hospital in London. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are eager to spend some quality time as a family in a place that serves some importance. In fact, a representative spoke on their behalf, stating that “The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of the Royal Family.”

Although Markle was born in America, she had stayed in Canada temporarily during her time as an actress, primarily while filming for the show, Suits.

It’s presumed that part of the reason for this holiday trip to Canada is because of Meghan’s wish to spend time with her family over the Christmas break, primarily her mother, Doria Ragland. Markle is very close with her mother, where the Duchess of Sussex has brought Doria to many different events and has even spoken out about her heritage with pride. Even though she still resides in America, Doria has attended many important family events in the United Kingdom, including the birth and christening of her grandson, Archie.

Since Meghan’s mother has travelled across oceans to spend time with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild, it’s possible that seeing Doria is not the only reason for leaving home during the holidays. After the recent documentary released about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the couple had decided to take a step back from some of their responsibilities as royals and focus on being a family.

Additionally, the two have mentioned that they want their son to grow up as “normal” as possible, so having some alone time away from the spotlight might just be what Meghan and Harry need to unwind. More importantly, it gives each of them a chance to bond and make memories with their baby before picking things back up in the new year.

There’s been no specific date released about when the Duke and Duchess will be returning home, and Canadians have shared their delight about the royals staying. Even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted about it, stating “Prince Harry, Meghan, and Archie, we’re all wishing you a quiet and blessed stay in Canada. You’re among friends, and always welcome here.
