Hilarious Poem About Less-Than-Helpful New Dads Is The Most Relatable Thing We've Seen All Year

2019 might well still be young, but this poem about new dads that don't chip in as much as they should gets our vote for the most relatable thing of the year.

Those of you with children will know that when you first get your baby home, you are in for a lot of sleepless nights. There is an almost infinite amount of things that can cause a baby to become upset during the night, and you are on the hook to fix them all. Dirty diaper, hungry, teething. They all end in tears and you are the one whose duty it is to dry them.

When it comes to waking up in the night to tend to a crying child, there is a stereotype that the mom takes a lot more responsibility than the dad. Some moms reading this are likely nodding furiously at that. We're not saying all dads leave the night shift to their partners, but in a lot of cases that is certainly the case.

For those of you who do agree with the premise that moms are the ones waking up in the nights while dads are fast asleep, you're going to love this poem. It was written by Caroline Andersen, is appropriately called Daddy's Asleep, and you can check it out from start to finish courtesy of CafeMom. We have picked out a couple of the parts we relate to the most to give you a taste of what you can expect.

One part of the hilarious poem reads "as mommy changes her shirt, and mops vomit off the floor, your daddy farts, rolls over, and continues to snore." Honestly, if that exact scenario happened to us we're not sure if we would burst out laughing or burst into tears. Caroline also touches on the fact that her daughter will likely grow up to be a daddy's girl despite the amount of effort she put in during the formative years.

"Whilst you sit on his lap and he sings you a song, you’ll love him and think daddy could do nothing wrong, Caroline writes. We really feel that one. Hopefully, the majority of you reading this will find humor in it rather than it hitting too close to home. There are many dads that pitch in just as much as the moms, and here's hoping that you have one of those dads in your home.
