Hilary Duff shares how she has a tough time helping her 7-year-old with his homework.
As a mother, there are many challenging tasks and one of those challenging tasks is helping children with their homework! Why is their homework so difficult? And often, schools change their expectations as to how some problems are solved and you will have to learn that new way. Hillary Duff hilariously shares how she is completely lost when it comes to her son's homework. She said that her son is in 2nd grade and she already has a tough time helping with his school work.

Duff explains that she actually stopped going to "real" school in third grade and so they are both doomed. She said she was left looking at his homework and scratching her head wondering how to solve some of the problems. Duff showed a picture of her with her son, Luca on Instagram. They are both puckering their lips looking at the camera. Duff captions her post saying that "Singapore math is the sh**" but she did say that she has learned " a lot about tick birds this week." Duff admits that she is very nervous for next year when homework will get even harder and she never actually went to third grade so it will be new to both of them.
No, Hilary Duff is not living in Singapore with her family. Duff is referring to a program called Singapore Math. Singapore Math is a "highly effective teaching approach originally developed by Singapore’s Ministry of Education for Singapore public schools. The method has been widely adopted in various forms around the world over the past twenty years following our introduction of the curriculum to the U.S. in 1998." Their website continues to promote their math program by saying, "The Singapore math method is focused on mastery, which is achieved through intentional sequencing of concepts. Some of the key features of the approach include the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) progression, number bonds, bar modeling, and mental math. Instead of pushing through rote memorization, students learn to think mathematically and rely on the depth of knowledge gained in previous lessons."
We could only imagine how complicated this program is since the description was even confusing to us! Don't worry Hilary, even parents who graduated from college struggle with their kid's homework. Not only has it been a while since we have done elementary math, but it also seems like it gets harder for the kids every year! You are doing great Hilary and you are not alone!
