Hoda Kotb, who just celebrated her first Thanksgiving with daughter Hope Catherine, also witnessed a major milestone in her baby’s life. The Today show host, 55, revealed Monday that her daughter, who she adopted in April, had crawled for the first time. Kotb was formerly a correspondent for the television news magazine program Dateline NBC.
While talking with Today show co-host Jenna Bush Hager about the Thanksgiving holidays, Kotb shared a video of the little one on the move. “We’ve been waiting for a moment,” she said, explaining that she and fiancé Joel Schiffman, 61, had been waiting for this step for a while.
In the video, also posted on Kotb’s personal Instagram Story, the mother of two is ecstatic as her baby starts to crawl. “Yes!” Kotb cheers as her 2-year-old daughter, Haley Joy, also joins in the applause. Schiffman is in the video as well as Kotb’s mother, brother, sister-in-law, and nieces.
“I was just trying to think of, like, what did we do? I don’t really remember,” Kotb said. “We had a delicious meal. Hope crawled, and we just lounged around and had a great time.”
In May, Kotb told PEOPLE about the experience of becoming a mother for the second time. “I forgot everything!” she said. “I was like, ‘How do you hold the baby? How do you feed a baby? How do you swaddle?’ I was googling swaddling and — you’re not going to believe this — how-to put-on pajamas.”
“I just can’t believe how in a blink, life changes, and all of a sudden there are two babies in this house. I’m just overwhelmed with joy,” she added. Kotb also talked about how caring for two children relieved some of the pressure of parenting.
“My first time around, I spent my whole time going, ‘I got it! I got it!'” she said. “I didn’t know what to expect with two. All of a sudden, with two kids, you’re like, ‘Wait, baby one is crying, baby two needs to be put down. Hope is hungry, Haley needs me.'”
“I was always like, ‘I have to fix it! Here I come.’ Now I’m just like, ‘Haley’s safe. She’s good. The baby’s going to eat in a minute. She’ll be okay,” she added.

In February 2017, Kotb told viewers she had adopted Haley, who was born on Valentine’s Day that year. Kotb’s battle with breast cancer had left her unable to conceive naturally and she recognized that she thought she would never be a mother.
“I felt like, before Haley came, I’d had an average life,” Kotb said. “She stepped in it, my heart exploded. And then, all of a sudden, this little girl Hope steps in and you realize how much room there is in there You think you’re topped out. But your heart’s ability to expand blows my mind.”
In March 2007, Kotb underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer and has since become an advocate for breast cancer awareness. She even allowed the Today show cameras to follow her throughout her cancer battle. After she was pronounced cancer-free, she has continued to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Since 2013, Kotb has been in a relationship with New York financier, Joel Schiffman. On February 21, 2017, Kotb announced on the Today show that she had adopted a baby girl named Haley Joy Kotb. On April 16, 2019, Kotb came on the Today show via phone to announce she had adopted a second baby girl named Hope Catherine Kotb. Then on November 25, she announced live on the Today show that she had gotten engaged to Schiffman.
