If you either follow or know lots about astrology, then you already know that Mercury is now in retrograde. But if you don't know anything about this particular subject, then that previous statement most likely confused you. If you happen to fall under the latter group, that's okay! Here's what it means.
To put it simply, Mercury being in retrograde means that the Earth actually isn't moving backward. Mercury's orbit around the Sun takes a total of 88 days to complete. This is quite short when compared to the just over 365 days it takes for Earth to do the exact same thing. Due to this massive difference, the Earth's journey will certainly overtake Mercury's journey for more than a few weeks. When this takes place, Mercury will appear to be moving backward. That's when Mercury is in retrograde.
While this astrology-related event can impact several aspects of your life in both positive and negative ways, there's one in particular that we're going to touch on here. The one in question is how Mercury retrograde will affect raising your children and your overall family life? Whether you believe it's real or not, it's worth noting the many changes that may or may not happen to your family.
Mercury is said to control all aspects of your life that have to do with business transactions, communication, technology and traveling. So when it's in retrograde, all of those areas are supposedly going to become a complete mess. When you're trying to raise children, this can mean more unwanted temper tantrums, their tech toys suddenly deciding to not work, travel issues and more difficulty when making important life transitions (be it small, large, or anywhere in between).
So, how can you cope with the Mercury retrograde when you have kids? When it comes to the increased number of temper tantrums, you'll need to be more patient with your kids when such an issue pops up. As frustrating as that may be, it's really all you can do. To prepare for the possibility of tech issues, review your family's Internet safety rules with your children and change any passwords that seriously need an update. Both steps will allow you to have some peace of mind while your child surfs the Internet.
For traveling, doing such a thing will be more difficult. Such issues you'll most likely face include cranky children, delays and detours. If you were thinking of taking your family on a trip, it's best to not go unless it's absolutely necessary. That way, you won't have to deal with such unwanted stress. Another thing you'll most likely want to put off any important milestones (i.e. sleep training, potty training, walking, etc.). This is because doing so during the Mercury retrograde will be much more difficult. You may have all the patience in the world, but even you'll be tested during this time.
If you're not a believer in astrology, all of what's been mentioned won't concern you. But if you do- or if you're simply curious about it- then get ready. With Mercury in retrograde, things at home are going to become stressful and trying for any parent. Your kids may act out just because, your tech toys may not work, traveling will be harder, and any life transitions will be harder to do. Whether you just had a baby or multiple kids of various ages (or somewhere in between), all you can do is take a deep breath and hang on for this particular ride. As frustrating as this may be, just remember that the Mercury retrograde is temporary. If you and your children can successfully get through this, then your family can get through most anything.
