After a man who used flashcards to coach his wife through labor was labeled 'Husband of the Year' the internet hit back to explain why he really isn't.

A woman knows her role during childbirth, for the most part. Granted, every birth will be different and there is no way of knowing exactly how everything will go, but for the most part, the woman's role is clear. The man, on the other hand, can feel pretty useless. He needs to be there for his partner as she births their child, but at times his mere presence might even anger the mom-to-be.

Our advice to any men who are about to become dads would be to just be there. You might feel awkward, useless, and even unwanted at times, but trust us when we tell you that you'll want to be in that room when your child arrives. Just reassure your partner and get her things as and when she asks for them.

One man labeled by ABC News as Husband of the Year decided to take a slightly different route. As you can see in the video below, he decided to create flashcards to help him coach his partner through pregnancy. Each card has a little snippet of information relating to their relationship, and every fifth card or so reminds the mom-to-be that she needs to breathe.

Others who have seen the viral video are not as taken with the man's actions. Most of the replies come from women who have children of their own and have written in various ways that they would not have taken kindly yo their partners doing this for them. Some have even admitted that they would have punched him in the face if he had brought his flashcards within arm's reach.

How do you feel about this man's actions? Would you have loved your partner to be as creative as this as you were giving birth, or would you rather he sat quietly and offered words of encouragement as and when needed? It seems as if most of the internet falls into the latter category, but we're sure there must be some women out there who would have liked it. The woman in the video doesn't seem to mind, although we can't see her face.
