Jana Kramer recently opened up about her experience with breastfeeding and why she ultimately decided it wasn’t right for her.

The country star and her husband Mike Caussin share two children – Jolie, 3, and Jace, 13 months – and the celebrity couple have always been open about the highs and lows of parenting. Most recently, Jana opened up about breastfeeding during the newest episode of her podcast Whine Down. She admits she “didn’t want” to try breastfeeding but it was “very important” to her partner.

"I wasn't breastfed. I didn't feel like I had to have that connection with my baby. Personally, I don't like my nipples being touched. I don't like it. I don't want someone sucking on 'em,” the musician explained. "But it was really important to Mike so I said, 'Okay, I'm gonna try.’”

However, breastfeeding didn’t come easy to the celebrity. After welcoming her first child, Jana’s milk supply didn’t come in quickly. She said doctors recommended she supplement and also try pumping, but it did little to help. “It was so stressful. I was just crying and I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, my baby lost even more weight than she should've,’” the One Tree Hill star said.

Before the birth of her second baby, Jana decided she wasn’t going to try breastfeeding again. But when Jace got sick post-birth, she decided to give it another go. Unfortunately, the second attempt proved just as tough. “I had two of my girlfriends come over ... my boobs still had the milk in 'em but they were just so engorged and just gross, so they had the pump on me," Jana explained. "And then we're trying to get Jace to connect [with] my nipple and I didn't know how to do it 'cause I never breastfed, so I didn't know how to latch it and how to do all these things."

She says that her husband ultimately helped her accept that breastfeeding was more stress than it’s worth for their family. "Mike walks in the room, he's like, 'Why are you doing this to yourself?' And I was like, 'Because I have to – because everyone says that he's gonna get worse if I don't breastfeed!'" the mother-of-two added.
