Jennifer Garner admits to feeling like she was defined by her pregnancies and her children.

Being a mother is very difficult. One of the hardest parts about motherhood is that you sometimes lose your identity. When people ask you to define yourself you start telling people how many children you have. Before you know it, you are describing each of your children in depth. For many years you sometimes lose who you are because you are never thinking about yourself and everything you do is for your children. Many moms even go through an identity crisis when their children start leaving the house because they have to rediscover who they are. Mothers often get wrapped up in just being a mom as opposed to being an individual woman. Jennifer Garner shares that for a long time she felt defined by her children.

Garner shares that when she first started her career she was considered one of the "hot girls" and she was getting roles based on her looks. She loved getting the roles and the opportunities that she was getting but soon when she got pregnant and started having children people started defining her by her pregnancies and babies. She wasn't getting the same offers anymore because of her new "identity" as being pregnant or being a mother. She was now being offered a different type of role and she felt like she was being defined as a mother. She said that the good thing about being defined as a mother instead of just "the hot girl" is that when somebody does offer her something it is because they genuinely want to see her take on a role.

Jennifer shares that she has a lot more stress in the industry now than she has ever had in the past. She remembers doing "the cover" back in 2004 and she remembers thinking about how naive she was. Back in 2004, she thought that she had everything figured out and that the world was going exactly how she wanted. Now she laughs about how stupid she was. She said, "I hadn't even been through anything bad yet." She has now had three children and has even been through a divorce. She is also having to make all of her decisions based on her children instead of just her. She has to be very private about her life because she doesn't want her children to "out there" and in the public eye. For the longest time, she wouldn't even tell people their names but now everybody knows their names.

She shares that life is just a lot different in the industry when you become a mom, but she wouldn't change it for the world. She loves being a mother and she loves her children more than anything. Things are certainly different than when she first started in the industry, but she wouldn't change it for anything.
