Here's Why Jennifer Garner Won't Allow Her 13-Year-Old Daughter To Join Instagram

Although Jennifer Garner is an Instagram Queen, the actress recently explained why we won’t be seeing her kids on social media anytime soon.

During an appearance on Katie Couric’s podcast Next Question with Katie Couric, the mom-of-three explained that she and her ex-husband Ben Affleck do their best to give their kids a normal upbringing, People reports. A part of that means controlling what they do and do not see on the Internet- no tabloid magazines for them! Even though her eldest child, daughter Violet, 13, recently asked to join Instagram, Jennifer just doesn’t think it’s a good idea.

“Without even having parents who are well-known, I worry about all kids having to deal with this new pressure,” Jennifer explained. “My daughter is at an all-girl school, and it’s such a huge problem.” The actress also shares 10-year old daughter Seraphina and 7-yeaar old Samuel with her famous ex-husband.

“She’ll occasionally talk to me about getting Instagram, and I can see why because I’m on there and it’s something kind of fun that I do, and I am modeling the opposite of what I want for her to do,” Jennifer continued. “How often is that in parenting?”

She added that she wants her daughter to actively think about the consequences of social media. If she can prove that it has a positive effect, Jen will be more open to listening.

“I just say, ‘When you can show me studies that say that teenage girls are happier using Instagram than not, then we can have the conversation,'” the 13 Going On 30 star explained. “‘But everything you look at, I don’t see anything positive for you out there. You can look at mine when you want to, we can go over it together, but I just don’t see it.'”

Jen recently joined Instagram a few years ago, which in Hollywood means she was a late comer to the game. Though she’s pretty active on the social media platform nowadays, the working mom admits she only joined to promote her organic baby food company Once Upon a Farm - and she did so reluctantly.

“I joined Instagram because of Once Upon a Farm,” she said. “It was very much part of the deal and I did it kicking and screaming, but that’s how much I wanted to be involved with this company. And when I did it, there’s all these companies in LA who will come in and do your social media for you and I just said I can’t do that.” Jen added, “I have to be able to do this my way. I went out there and did what felt right for me.”

So with that, BabyGaga readers, we guess we shouldn’t expect to see the Garner-Afflect kids on social media any time soon!
