Custody battles don't always go smoothly. A lot of parents are forced to endure brutal custody disputes over their children that are emotionally and mentally draining. One parent may even go as far as to throw in accusations that the parents has harmed the child, the former parent, others, or even themselves. Sometimes they lead to the potential of criminal charges and the possibility of jail. But there's also the chance that those accusations are false. Everything must be taken into consideration.
Actor Jeremy Renner is currently in the midst of a custody battle with ex-wife Sonny Pacheco over their six-year-old daughter, Ava. The couple finalized their divorce back in December of 2015 and have joint custody of their daughter. But recently, Pacheco has been seeking sole custody of Ava. Now, this dispute is starting to get ugly between Renner and Pacheco.
The reason for this has to do with recent allegations made by Pacheco. According to legal documents, she claims that back in November of 2018, her ex-husband openly talked about wanting to kill her. He also allegedly placed a gun in his mouth and threatened to kill himself. He didn't do that, though; instead, Renner allegedly shot the ceiling of their home. Throughout the alleged incident, little Ava was sound asleep in her bedroom.
For his part, Renner has denied all of the allegations made by his ex-wife. He denies abusing drugs and alcohol, going so far as to saying that he's never tested positive for either. He's undergone random drug tests that, according to him, took place for about three months. Ina addition, he said that he's hired a mental health specialist to monitor his visits with his daughter. Those findings haven't been released to the public, most likely due to doctor-client confidentiality.
"The well-being of his daughter Ava has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Jeremy. This is a matter for the court to decide. It’s important to note the dramatizations made in Sonni’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind," Renner's rep said in a separate statement.
What matters most here is the safety and well-being of Ava. Here's hoping that this custody battle will end soon, with both Renner and Pacheco satisfied with its results.
