It takes a few months, but most if not all babies wind up showing a preference for one of their parents. Sometimes they adore spending time with their dad while other babies can’t be parted from their mother for love or money. Songbird Jessica Simpson recently admitted to PEOPLE that her almost one-year-old daughter Birdie Mae would much rather spend time with her husband Eric Johnson.

She revealed that the reason why Birdie adores spending time with her dad is due to the fact that he’s much taller than mom so that he can run around with her and she can pretend to fly like a bird. “She’s definitely a daddy’s girl,” the singer explained. “I have to make sure he doesn’t walk in so I can have some time with Birdie.”

Simpson joked that the attachment is so strong between father and daughter that she’s left to constantly monitor the room so she can keep an eye out for her husband just so she can spend some time with her little girl. The songstress added that her two older children are also very close to their father to the point where he has to juggle his time between the three kids. “We all want Eric’s time,” she said. “He’s good at splitting up his time between the four of us.”

Despite the fact that their children all want to be close to their father, Simpson is so proud that her hubby always manages to stay patient with them and show them all love and affection. However, even though Birdie Mae is a daddy’s girl, she inherited her burgeoning artsy side from her mom and Aunt Ashlee Simpson. Simpson revealed that her youngest absolutely adores music, just like her mama. “One morning she was like ‘la, la, la, la,” Simpson added. “I was trying to get her to sing my sister’s song.”

She is convinced that Birdie inherited her love for songs due to the fact that she was singing all throughout the pregnancy and jumped back into the music industry where as with her previous children, she tried to take a break from her career to give them a sense of normalcy.

While Simpson is thrilled that her youngest loves to sing, she strives to be a role model to her children and hopes that all of them will one day follow her example. That’s one of the reasons why she’s teaming up with both the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Keebler cookies; from March 2nd to April 30th, fans can purchase specially marked packages and the company will donate to the charity. “To know that these children who are sick and their dreams can come true with people purchasing cookies, that’s two rewards right there,” Simpson added.
