It appears as though a week doesn’t go by that Jessica Simpson isn’t being criticized for one thing or another. This time it’s for her parenting, as the fashion maven reportedly decided to allow her 7-year-old daughter Maxie Drew to color her hair. Unfortunately, this didn’t sit very well with a lot of Simpson’s critics, who think that the little girl is too young to have her hair dyed, while also slamming the celebrity mother for “chemically ruining” her daughter’s hair.

According to Yahoo, it didn’t take very long for Jessica Simpson’s fans and critics to respond after she posted a photo of little Maxie Drew showing off her new hair dye. Simpson explained that her daughter wanted to get her hair done after she was inspired by the hit Disney channel movie, The Descendants.

There were plenty of people who left comments under the post, suggesting that either Maxie Drew was too young to get her hair dyed or that Simpson didn’t take into consideration that she would be damaging the little girl’s hair with the treatment. There were also a lot of people who defended Simpson. One fan said that she was a teacher and that she sees children Maxie Drew’s age come into school with hair dye all the time.

With that said, health professionals suggest that parents wait until at least after puberty or until a child is well into their teens before they dye or bleach their hair. While Jessica Simpson herself didn’t share any details about the exact hair dye used, the type of treatment and whether or not she used organic products, many doctors and dermatological surgeons say that it’s not a recommended practice.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that a celebrity parent has been criticized for allowing their child to dye their hair. Both chart toppers Gwen Stefani and Pink were also mom shamed online after they posted photos of their kids happily posing with their multi-colored hairstyles, too. Many parents allow their kids to dye their hair for the summer months and before it’s time to go back to school.

So far Jessica Simpson herself has not made any comments about the controversy.
