After six years together, John Cena and Nikki Bella are officially calling it quits. WWE fans were stunned when the celebrity couple announced the news but there have been indicators that suggested trouble in paradise. Namely, having children.

On a 2013 episode of Total Divas, Bella confessed to Cena, “I do want to be a mom. I feel like I’d be missing out.” Cena replied, “I’m going to choose my words carefully. I can’t give you that.”

According to US Weekly, it was Bella that finally called an end to their romance. What was it that finally caused her to end their relationship? Was it the difference in their personalities or the fact that Cena would never give her what she ultimately wanted-- a family?

The engaged couple were set to wed on May 5th, leaving fans to wonder why Bella waited this long to cut him loose. Perhaps the fact that Cena, who declared years before that he would never marry her, changed his mind and proposed to Bella in April of 2017. If she could change his mind on marriage, maybe she thought she could do the same with having kids.

To be fair, Cena has never hid his feelings regarding children. He has spoken openly on his concerns about becoming a father telling US Weekly last summer, “Right now it hasn’t changed. I can barely raise myself, so I just don’t know how good a dad I’ll be. I guess that’s my biggest fear."

The decision on whether or not have to children is one that can easily tear apart a couple, famous or not. The six-year struggle of trying to land on the same page in regards to  creating a family, seems like it took its toll.

Even Bella's family, including her twin sister Brie, expressed concern that the couple's views were so drastically different when it came to babies. They worried that perhaps Bella was giving up too much of herself.

On an episode of Total Divas Brie explained, “Nicole and I were talking and she brought to my attention that she’s over marriage, she doesn’t want to have kids anymore. It was a little alarming to me."
