Leavitt won her case and Johnson & Johnson is now responsible to pay $29 million. Although this is a win for Leavitt, it won't take away the damage that the baby powder has already done to her body and her life.

During Leavitt's trial she admitted to having used J&J's baby powder her entire life. Her mother used it on her when she was little and then she used it on her own children. She even used it every once in awhile right before she would put on her face make-up. She stopped using the powder over 10 years ago, but her lungs were still filled with asbestos. They tested the asbestos and they found that it could not have been job related since it was not industrial grade. Ever since the 1970's, Johnson & Johnson has received their products from places known to have high amounts of asbestos, but never informed their customers. Jurors found that the link between the baby powder and the asbestos found in Leavitt's lungs was too coincidental. Her cancer was directly caused by the baby powder product created by Johnson & Johnson.
