The Duggar’s are no strangers to controversy, but they also have countless loyal followers. Recently, those fans became frazzled after seeing a picture Joy-Anna Duggar’s son Gideon with an iced coffee.

Joy-Anna, 21, welcomed Gideon with husband Austin Forsyth a little over a year and a half ago, so it was no surprise when fans were shocked to see the toddler sipping a coffee. The couple, who suffered a miscarriage earlier this year after their daughter, named Annabell Elise Forsyth, died at 20 weeks’ gestation on June 27, 2019, have enjoyed their fans support during these trying times. Yet social media users will quickly call out parents they believe are behaving irresponsibly.

After Joy-Anna Duggar shared on Instagram the pic of Gideon with her iced coffee, which she captioned teasingly, “A little coffee to get him through the day. Or maybe not… he already has more energy than I can keep up with,” her followers reacted swiftly. One fan, who apparently didn’t get the joke, wrote, “he is too young for coffee.” While another was quick to defend Joy-Anna by writing, “I’ve drank coffee since I was born and I’m fine.”

This isn’t the first time the Duggar’s have been called out for their kids’ supposed drinking habits. Jessa once captioned a pic of her son drinking sparkling water as, “wow, definitely not Fanta.” Followers immediately questioned whether she was giving him soda, to which she responded, “no, he prefers coffee and energy drinks. And of course, I’m joking. He only drinks breast milk and water.”

Joy-Anna and Austin, along with Joy's siblings, appear on the TLC series Counting On, a spin-off show of 19 Kids and Counting, which features the Duggar family: Jessa Seewald, Jinger Vuolo, Joy-Anna Forsyth, fourteen of their sixteen siblings as well as parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. The show was created after the Josh Duggar molestation controversy and ensuing cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting. The show has featured the births of six of Jim Bob and Michelle’s grandkids out of a total of thirteen.

In 2015, Jim Bob told the Arkansas State Police that Josh had molested five underage girls between 2002 and 2003, when he was 14 and 15 years old. The police report indicated that four of the five victims were Duggar's siblings. Since then, Jessa has defended Josh's crimes, stating, "I do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist, as some people are saying. That is so overboard and a lie really."

Josh has since admitted to being unfaithful to his wife and being addicted to pornography, yet the couple are still married, have five children and are expecting a sixth.
