Many celebrities have turned to IVF to get pregnant, and Julianne Hough and her husband NHL star Brooks Laich recently opened up about their decision to use fertility assistance to expand their family. While speaking to Us Weekly, Brooks hinted that the couple have had trouble conceiving.

“My wife and I want to have children in our future and going through IVF was a decision we made to increase the [odds] of that happening,” the 35-year old explained, adding that it’s not something they want to hide from their fans. “I wish people would perceive it [that way instead of with] shame or guilt.”

Brooks went on to condemn the taboo associated with using fertility treatments, and from the sounds of it, the celebrity couple are hoping to use their platform to bring awareness to this often-not-talked-about subject. “We want to […] attack things that are stereotyped or deemed sensitive or hush-hush,” he explained.

Julianne and Brooks were only married in 2017 and many fans didn’t even realize the famous couple were looking to start a family so soon. However, Brooks had only positive things to say about his wife and how she’s dealing with their fertility problems.

“Julianne has the best heart in the world — that’s her,” the athlete went on. “I view her as such a better person than I am because of the amount of love she has for every living thing in the world.”

This isn’t the only pregnancy and fertility related topic Julianne has been opened about. In 2008, the actress-singer was diagnosed with endometriosis and has been candid about her struggle with it in hopes of raising awareness. Back in 2017, the star hinted that she may have trouble getting pregnant in the future because of her diagnosis.

"For the longest time, I thought: This is the way my period is," she told Glamour. "I didn't want to complain, so I'd just deal with it and ignore it." Julianne added, "We want to have a family—that’s definitely in my plan. I'm doing what I need to do for me.”
