Bathing with one’s children is a contentious topic of debate in the parenting world, but Kate Hudson made it clear where she stands in a sweet new photo she shared of herself and daughter Rani, 20 months. In the image, the mother-daughter duo was enjoying a bath together. Rani sat in her famous mother’s lap and stared up at her, while the pair exchanged fishy faces. Kate included an emotional caption alongside the candid shot.

“Love. I hold my babies as I want to be held and ask for no returns. I love my babies with the freedom of knowing they are different than me and supporting their human right to individuality. I just love them endlessly,” she wrote in the post, seemingly referencing the events happening in the U.S. with the Black Lives Matter movement and the George Floyd protests. “Mistakes will happen, people are flawed, to be human will only ever be imperfect. Would we want it any other way? Perfection...what is that anyway?”

Unfortunately, however, not all of the comments on Kate’s post were kind. Some people made fun of Kate’s previous commitment to raising her kids without labels, writing, “Has it decided what gender it wants to be yet?” Others cautioned against the celebrity sharing such intimate photos of her children on her large platform. But for the most part, the comments seemed overwhelmingly positive, with many people appreciating Kate’s wise words. “Love love this! Really beautiful! Both, your image & your message,” one person wrote, while another said, “Beautiful photo and perhaps even more beautiful message.”

Rani is the youngest child for the Almost Famous actress. She shares Rani, born in 2018, with her partner Danny Fujikawa. The actress and musician have been publicly linked since 2016. They were originally introduced through Sara and Erin Foster, Danny’s stepsisters and Kate’s close friends, when they were in their 20s. Kate also shares 16-year old son Ryder with her ex-husband Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes; they were married from 2000-2006. She also has a 9-year old son Bingham with her ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy of Muse. The pair were together from 2010-2014, but Kate says she maintains a good co-parenting relationship with both of her exes.

Previously, Baby Gaga reported that Kate claims to be stricter with her kids than her own famous mother, Goldie Hawn. The matriarch and her daughter spoke to PEOPLE Magazine about their parenting styles, and while Kate says she’s learned a lot from her mother over the years, she admits they differ in their approaches.  “I’m more lenient, like way more lenient,” says Goldie, 74, told the publication. Kate then added, “I’m so strict […] You were strict when you needed to be. You were honest.”
