Actress Kate Hudson's open, honest and most importantly - healthy - plan going forward to shed her baby weight is a refreshing take on the realities of postpartum. Yesterday, the Almost Famous star posted a candid, fresh-faced mirror selfie with a lengthy caption on Instagram that many new moms will easily relate to, and hopefully be inspired by.

"I'm ready to start taking a little time in the day focusing on myself," she began in her caption. "For me, that means my health."

Posing in a sports bra and leggings, Hudson shared that she was ready to spend a little more time on herself again after becoming a mom for the third time this fall - she gave birth to daughter Rani Rose in early October of this year. Rani is her first child with musician boyfriend Danny Fujikawa. She also has two older sons from previous relationships - Bingham, seven, and Ryder, 14. (Bingham's dad is Muse's Matt Bellamy and Ryder's dad is The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.)

Instead of posting a link to a restrictive diet plan or sharing an unrealistic workout routine, Hudson detailed her down-to-earth plan for shedding 25 pounds in time to film a new project in the spring of 2019. And as any working mom can attest, she also acknowledged that juggling kids while also taking the time to take care of yourself can be a challenge.

"Let's be honest, kids take the number one position and it's haaaaard to make time for yourself," she said. She also admitted that she is beginning a new journey to get back to her "fighting weight", and invited her followers to join her on this journey via her Pretty Happy account - where she promises to share her favourite exercises, recipes and even meditation tips.

Hudson's main goals, according to her Insta post, are to try new workouts, eat as healthy as possible, keep up milk production for her baby, spend time with all of her children, partner, girlfriends and yes, of course, put in the hours at work! While it sounds lofty, she remains positive and motivated - with many of her fans thanking her for the inspiration.

"Thanks for your honesty and inspiration, Kate!" wrote one user. "You rock momma!"

In April of this year, Hudson revealed her pregnancy news to her fans with a cute gender reveal video.

"We have been trying to keep this pregnancy under the radar for as long as possible but I’m a poppin now!" she wrote. "A little girl on the way."
