Let's just throw it out there - being a mom can be tough. From worrying that a baby might not be getting enough nutrition while breastfeeding, to the pressure of needing to bounce back to pre-baby weight like celebrities to, to being supermom and accomplishing housework, getting dinner on the table, working, and the like, day in and day out, being a mom can be a stressful job. Model and mom, Kate Upton, felt the exhaustion of being all things new mom and decided something needed to change.

Upton, 27, and husband, Justin Verlander, welcomed their daughter Genevieve to the world in 2018. Like most new moms, Upton began to feel the pressure fairly early on that life should return to normal as soon as possible. That meant getting back to work and popping back to pre-pregnancy weight. Along with that, it also meant that if Upton wanted to exclusively breastfeed, she had to do it while on the go.

In a recent interview with the Editorialist, Upton told the publication that "breastfeeding was sucking the energy" out of her and that taking care of herself was as important as taking care of those around her. Upton went on to say that she needed to "calm down and let her body recover" to be the mom she wanted to be.

Always one to speak up about the need to be genuine and not perpetuate the need to show perfection on social media, Upton has felt the pressure to have those "perfect" pictures even more strongly since becoming a mom.

In typical Upton fashion, though, the model has made a conscious decision to live in the moment more and forget about taking the staged, perfect picture. This was done so that Genevieve did not grow up thinking being on the phone constantly was what was important in life. Something her husband, Verlander whole-heartedly agrees with. Upton said that she and Verlander talk about having less time on the phone and enjoying a "phone-free dinner" all the time.

At the end of the day, Upton is not a fan of contrived situations and refuses to participate in them. The message she wants her fans, and people in general, to embrace is "just being yourself" is perfection enough. People might love you or hate you for it, but when it comes down to it, authenticity is what is going to provide happiness in life, not pretty pictures posted for others to see.
