Mom-of-two Keira Knightley recently opened up about the struggle that is pumping for a newborn while also working.
The actress and her husband James Righton welcomed their second child only six weeks ago. so far, the name and gender of their newest addition hasn’t been released. The couple, who wed in 2013, are also parents to 4-year old daughter Edie. But despite having a newborn at home, Keira is already back to work and walking the red carpet.
While speaking to BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin earlier this week, the mother-of-two opened up about her new baby for the first time. “You can tell I’ve got a 6-week-old baby, can’t you?! I’m talking, but I’ve got no idea where I’m going,” Keira explained. She also added that she was surprised she ended up looking so good for the interview given how chaotic her personal life is at the moment.
“This is about the third time since I gave birth that my hair has been brushed — and I didn’t brush it,” she hilariously admitted. “Lovely Luke, who is my hairdresser today, he brushed it. I was in my pyjamas when they got there and this is somebody else’s dress." Keira continued, “So it’s all smoke and mirrors today, which I’m super happy about, but I’ve just sort of been led here. And I’ve got six hours, so this is my workday.”
The conversation quickly turned to pumping. The Pirates of the Caribbean alum admitted that she’s pumping constantly throughout the day- and she even had to take a pump break before coming out for her interview. “I’ve gotta get back before 6:30 because that’s the feed. It’s going to be fine, we’re going to make it,” she told the host. “There is a bit of extra milk — which I’d love not to use, because it’s in the freezer and that can be tricky — but it is there.”
The actress continued, “I definitely have to deal with pumping. Everyone has to deal with pumping — I mean, if you’re doing that and it’s working. If you want to do that and if you can do that — then yes, we’re pumping. Pumping. So much pumping.”
Aside from taking care of her young family, Keira has been busy promoting her new movie Official Secrets, in which she plays an Iraq war intelligence translator. She and her husband James appeared on the red carpet last week to celebrate the new flick. Keira looked radiant in a white, floral dress with delicate puffy sleeves. We wish we looked this good with a newborn at home!
