On Monday, in Trois-Rivere in Canada, a baby named Victoria was abducted from a hospital by a woman who was wearing a disguise of a nurse. Amber Alerts were sent out and of course it went viral on Facebook immediately. The Alert included a photo of the woman from security footage as well as her vehicle.

A young Facebook user saw the Alert that had been shared and immediately recognized the woman in the photo as an old neighbor. She gathered her friends and decided to drive by her old neighborhood and found the car parked outside. Immediately they contacted police.  “The patio door was open. The lights were on. It was clear that she was there.” said one of the friends, Melizanne Bergeron. The police arrived in minutes and found the suspect as well as the unharmed baby.

“In less than an hour, the photo [of the suspect] was everywhere … You were among the more than thousands of people who shared the photo of this woman on social media … Know that it was this that saved her, our little Victoria. Every click, every share made the difference.” The suspect is now in custody for a psychological evaluation and the hospital in question will be having a risk-assessment to prevent this from happening again. The baby has now been returned to her family.
