Trigger: Mention of death.
A home invasion is arguably a family's worst nightmare. Just the idea of someone making their way into your own home to hurt you and/or rob you is terrifying to think about. This scary situation is depicted often in both movies and TV shows- but to actually go through it is a whole other story entirely.
In Hillsborough County, Florida, one family was unfortunate enough to experience at home invasion. A situation like this could've ended tragically for the family affected. But according to homeowner Jeremy King, his wife- who's currently eight months pregnant- saved his life by shooting at the unwanted intruders.
King explained that on the night of the home invasion, two armed and hooded men broke into his home. One of them showed off his gun before taking the couple's unidentified 11-year-old daughter hostage and demanded "everything you got". King was then promptly pistolwhipped by one intruder and kicked by another.
His unnamed pregnant wife- who hadn't been in the room when the invasion began- had just looked into the backroom to find out what was going on. One intruder was quick to shoot at her, and she retreated, unharmed. But instead of remaining hidden, she returned with a legally owned AR-15 semiautomatic rifle on her. That's when she fired off one shot that hit one intruder, and that had both he and his accomplice promptly running away.
It wasn't until later when investigators from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office found the shot suspect "dead at the scene" in a ditch that's located close to the Kings' home. As of right now, the second suspect is still at large. Investigators are continuing to search for him using helicopters and K-9s, and it's unknown where he may be. But King owes his life to his wife for saving him and their daughter without hesitation.
"Them guys came in with two normal pistols and my AR stopped it. [My wife] evened the playing field and kept them from killing me," he explained in one interview.
