Maria Menounos' mother was battling both a brain tumor and COVID in November and December. Fearing that she was going to lose her, Maria shared some wonderful news that she hoped would keep her mother fighting. Maria and her husband, Keven Undergaro were planning to have a baby through surrogacy.

On Friday, Maria shared a video with People of what her parents endured at the end of 2020. From the journalist's mother, Lista, battling stage 4 Brain Cancer to both her mother and father testing positive for COVID, it was a lot for the family to endure.

Maria was in Connecticut when she learned that her mother's Stage 4 brain cancer had grown. Later that day, she then learned that Lista was presenting with symptoms of coronavirus. After positive tests came back for not only Lista but Costas, Maria's father, Maria was on the first flight back to Los Angeles.

When Maria landed, she said in the video that she received text messages that "brought me to my knees," according to Medicine World Council.

Lista was rushed to the hospital after she was found unresponsive.

Because Maria was not allowed to be in the hospital with her mother, she had FaceTime set up to be on 24 hours per day so that Lista would not be alone.

Fearing that she was going to lose her mother if Lista's brain did not remain active or have something to live for, Maria shared via FaceTime that she and Keven had "signed the papers for the babies" and that they were going to "start the medication" on the surrogate the following day, according to People.

Between having her mother recite what she was told and other brain-stimulating activities, Maria would continue to remind her mother about grandchildren who would be coming in the near future.

One of the ways that Maria would keep Lista constantly thinking about grandbabies was to ask her if she was "excited for the babies." Lista's answer was short and sweet, saying, "Very," per the video.

Maria and Keven determined that the right route for them was surrogacy after Maria was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had it successfully removed in 2017. The toll that not only the surgery but chemotherapy took on her body was great. And after consulting with Maria's doctors, according to People, the best decision to keep Maria safe and start a family was surrogacy.

Maria and Keven have not shared the details of whether their surrogate is successfully carrying their baby or babies as of yet. But based on the video Maria shared, the couple will hopefully be expanding their family sooner rather than later.
