Meghan Markle is not the only person who will be seeing a lot of changes in her life in the coming weeks. As a matter of fact, it looks like her mother, Doria Ragland will be by her side as she makes the transition from ex-Hollywood actress and a commoner to a royal princess.

The world got their very first glimpse of Doria during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding at Windsor Castle. And from what we can tell, Doria is a woman and a mother who staunchly supports her daughter and everything she has done in her life so far.

With that being said, we’ve got 15 ways Doria Ragland’s life will change now that her daughter is officially the Duchess of Sussex. After all, there’s a strong possibility that Meghan will want to keep her mother very close to her as she begins this new chapter in her life. Doria has always been and will always probably be the one person in Meghan’s life that she can truly trust with her entire heart. With that being said, it will be an exciting and if not a bumpy road for the both of them. Check out our list below and let us know what you think!

15 She Won’t See Meghan As Often Anymore

There is a reason why Doria was the only member on either side of Meghan’s family to attend the wedding: that’s because she’s the only person that has had Meghan’s back throughout the years. Unfortunately though, she won’t be able to see Meghan as often as she would like to. While growing up in Los Angeles, Doria had Meghan by her side, but all of that is going to change.

She won’t be able to pop over for lunch or visit her mother at her office anymore.

Even when she was little, Meghan loved to visit both of her parents at their jobs and particularly at the television sets that her father used to work at. Thomas Markle Senior was once an award-winning lighting director.

Meghan once told Dot News in an interview, “I grew up on the set of the TV series Married With Children. My dad was the show’s lighting director and I was there every day after school from the age of nine to 17. I really loved the environment of television and the team of the whole crew working together. I didn’t necessarily think I’d start acting but I knew I’d be in the industry in some capacity.”

14 Holidays In London

And while there’s very little chance that Meghan Markle will ever spend another Christmas holiday back home in Los Angeles, there’s a good chance that Doria will be crossing the pond to spend all of life’s special occasions with her in London instead. That’s right – instead of Christmas on the beach in Malibu, the mother and daughter duo will be spending it at Sandringham House with Queen Elizabeth instead.

Speaking about her upbringing, Meghan told Esquire Magazine: “I'm a California girl. Born and raised in L.A. So it's quite the departure. But I like it. It's what I've always asked for: a show that gets picked up and becomes this successful. I'm so grateful, so I'll take Canada. We just celebrated Canada Day here. What we've been doing every year since we've been up here is Patrick J. Adams and his family have us up to their home on an island on the Georgian Bay. I guess it's really a testament to how well we all get along as a cast that when we have a three-day holiday weekend, we all drive up there with our coolers and our beer, and everyone brings their kids and husbands and wives and everything.”

13 Possible Royal Grandbabies

Here’s something else that Doria Ragland probably never, ever imagined having in her life: royal grandbabies. But now that her daughter Meghan married a British prince and is an official Duchess, that’s what’s in her future. Her grandchildren will be royals! With that being said, it’s unfortunate that Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana won’t be here to enjoy her grandchildren the same way Doria will.

It’s without a doubt that the two women who have gotten along very well, too. Diana would have made all the extra steps to make Doria feel very welcomed in the family.

“My mother died when I was very young. I didn't want to be in the position I was in, but I eventually pulled my head out of the sand, started listening to people and decided to use my role for good. I am now fired up and energized and love charity stuff, meeting people and making them laugh,” Prince Harry once told Newsweek in an interview. “I sometimes still feel I am living in a goldfish bowl, but I now manage it better. I still have a naughty streak too, which I enjoy and is how I relate to those individuals who have got themselves into trouble.”

12 More Time Behind Closed Palace Doors

Doria Ragland was born and raised in Ohio, but she spent the majority of her adult years in Los Angeles. But now that Meghan is living in London, she will be spending a lot of time behind closed palace doors. Some things she will probably enjoy, while others she won’t probably expect. After all, the British royal family has plenty of skeletons in their closets, most of which will probably leave Doria completely shocked.

As Doreen St. Felix of The New Yorker wrote, “Ragland isn’t an actress like her daughter, but she said many things with her face. Her locs had been swept beneath her pillbox hat; the shine of her tiny nose ring gleamed like the shine in her eyes. There was not much emoting in the crowd of royal fascinators, although many screwed their faces as Bishop Michael Bruce Curry, the first black head of the Episcopal Church, thundered in his sermon about the possibility of a “new world.” But one could perceive Ragland softly reeling beneath her composure. Her lips trembled as her daughter walked down the aisle. She cried gently. When Curry spoke about the example of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the power of radical, social love, she nodded unreservedly.”

11 Security – And Lots Of It

Before Meghan Markle began her romance with Prince Harry, Doria lived a quiet, normal life in Los Angeles. But now that Meghan is the Duchess of Sussex, Doria has been put in the public spotlight, without her own consent, of course.

And because she’s now a high-profile figure, she’s going to need royal security, and lots of it.

It’s a new lifestyle that she most certainly isn’t used to. But the British monarchy knows that they can’t take any chances.

And if there is one person who knows just how cruel, judgmental and just plain bizarre the public can be, it’s Meghan herself. After all, she’s dealt with a lot of different experiences throughout her years as a television actress.

Meghan told Elle Magazine, “It's either ironic or apropos that in this world of not fitting in, and of harboring my emotions so tightly under my ethnically nondescript (and not so thick) skin, that I would decide to become an actress. There couldn't possibly be a more label-driven industry than acting, seeing as every audition comes with a character breakdown: 'Beautiful, sassy, Latina, 20s'; 'African American, urban, pretty, early 30s'; 'Caucasian, blonde, modern girl next door'. Every role has a label; every casting is for something specific. But perhaps it is through this craft that I found my voice.”

10 She Might Never Have To Work Again

Let’s face it: Doria Ragland might never have to work again in her life. After all, her son-in-law is Prince Harry! With that being said, recent reports have indicated that Doria supposedly quit her job as a social worker in Los Angeles.

So does that mean she’s looking to make the move to London? No one knows for sure.

But what we do know, is that she did an excellent job of instilling a strong work ethic in her daughter. That is also one of the reasons why Meghan is not only very intelligent and well-educated, but also the reason why she’s been able to stand on her own two feet with minimal help throughout the years. She credits her private school education and her teachers for helping her along the way, too.

Meghan told Esquire Magazine, “It was because I went to an all-girls Catholic school for like six years during the time when kids actually had handwriting class. I've always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well. What it evolved into was my pseudo-waitressing job when I was auditioning. I didn't wait tables. I did calligraphy for the invitations for, like, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton's wedding.”

9 But She’ll Be More Worried About Meghan

As any mother will tell you, it’s not easy seeing your child take on the big, bad world all by themselves. Luckily, Meghan has done a good job navigating through life’s ups and downs pretty well on her own. But now that she’s a member of the British royal family, everything is about to change. In fact, the scrutiny will increase tenfold. Meghan’s critics will take each and every opportunity to blast or criticize her, regardless of how hard she tries to ignore them or do things right. And for someone like Doria, this has to be very hard to watch.

She will want to always be there to protect her daughter, even when she can’t. And that’s what will be the most difficult part for Doria – seeing Meghan slammed by the tabloid press on a daily basis.

Meghan once said (according to AZ Quotes): “Kindness is the No. 1 quality I look for in a man. You can see in how he treats anyone - from a CEO to a housekeeper - and it's a reflection of how nice a guy is. Funniness and confidence come after that... When a guy approaches me, it's fantastic if he can make me laugh.”

8 Her Relationship With Prince Harry

Thankfully, Prince Harry is his mother’s son. There’s no doubt that he has inherited a lot of Princess Diana’s wonderful qualities. That is also the reason why Harry is often regarded as the most popular member of the monarchy – people love him the same way they once loved his mother. With that being said, there’s a good chance that Harry will treat Doria like his own mother. After all, that’s what Princess Diana would have loved to have seen herself. He will protect his mother-in-law the same way he protects his wife.

Prince Harry explained to Newsweek, “My mother took a huge part in showing me an ordinary life, including taking me and my brother to see homeless people. Thank goodness I’m not completely cut off from reality. People would be amazed by the ordinary life William and I live. I do my own shopping. Sometimes, when I come away from the meat counter in my local supermarket, I worry someone will snap me with their phone. But I am determined to have a relatively normal life, and if I am lucky enough to have children, they can have one too.” He pauses, then adds, “Even if I was king, I would do my own shopping.”

7 Having To Stay In The Shadows

Doria knows that she won’t be the first person that Meghan will call when she’s in trouble anymore. Her job as a mother is partially done so to speak, but that’s only because Meghan has moved on to the next chapter in her life as a newly married woman. The most important person in her life is now her husband, Prince Harry. But that doesn’t mean Doria is any less important. It’s just that she will have to spend more time in the shadows while watching her baby girl take on her new role and responsibilities in her life as a Duchess. It won’t be easy, but it’s also part of everyone’s new reality. Doria knows this and Meghan definitely knows this, too.

The New Yorker put it this way, “But how Ragland will participate in the cult of her daughter’s marriage is yet to be seen. There is new pressure on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—who take their titles after the first and only Duke of Sussex, who supported abolition—to liven up the monarchy’s reputation. The hunger for a cordial kind of racial harmonizing is strong. I know Markle feels that burden, and I know that Ragland does, too.”

6 The Tabloid Press

When you are a member of the royal family, seeing your name in the tabloid press on a daily basis is all part of your new territory. Meghan knows very well that the media can either make her or break her and that’s why she’s not letting them get the best of her. It’s also no secret that

the British media have been rather cruel to Meghan these last several months, and it’s mostly because she doesn’t fit their “ideal” image of what a British princess should look like.

That’s because Meghan is different. She’s biracial, she’s a former Hollywood actress and she’s a divorcee. But that won’t stop Meghan from loving her husband and of course, doing the best job that she can do as a royal. In fact, Meghan Markle will work extra hard to prove all of her critics wrong.

Meghan once told People Magazine, “Being 'ethnically ambiguous', as I was pegged in the industry, meant I could audition for virtually any role. Morphing from Latina when I was dressed in red, to African American when in mustard yellow, my closet filled with fashionable frocks to make me look as racially varied as an Eighties Benetton poster.”

5 The Markle Family

The royals aren’t the only family that Doria Ragland has to worry about. As a matter of fact, it looks like she and Meghan have to worry more about Thomas Markle’s side of the family than anyone else. That’s because they can’t stop talking smack about Meghan to the press. The person who is criticizing Meghan the most just happens to be her half-sister, Samantha Grant. She will take each and any opportunity to talk to the tabloid press about Meghan’s life, who she thinks Meghan really is behind closed doors, and anything else that’s negative and that can be said about her. At this point, she’s become very redundant, which is probably why Meghan and Doria have been ignoring her. They refuse to give her any attention, or even the time of day.

According to Page Six, Samantha Markle said, “To exclude him of a coat of arms is really stripping him of an honor and it’s a huge insult. The royals had generations of scandal in their own family. You’ve got inbreeding, you’ve got substance abuse, you’ve got alcohol abuse, you’ve got infidelity. On what grounds could the royals feel that the Markles are somehow not worthy? That’s the pot calling the kettle black.”

4 And Dealing With The Middletons

If you thought that the Markles were the only problematic family, just wait until Meghan gets to know the Middletons a little more. After all, if there is one British family that loves the spotlight, it’s them. With that being said, there’s a strong possibility that they are probably not liking all of the attention that Meghan is getting from the press right now.

If Meghan is hoping to become good friends with Kate and Pippa Middleton, she might have to think again. It’s doubtful that these three will become close, let alone good girlfriends behind palace doors.

The only people that Meghan can still count on are her mother and her girlfriends in both Los Angeles and Toronto. Kate, meanwhile, she’ll have to keep at a distance with a watchful eye. After all, there’s only room for one Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Meghan told The Huffington Post back in 2015, “At the moment I would love to have a dinner party with three of my girlfriends and just drink wine and be silly. I am mighty homesick for LA so craving some easy down time with the people who know we best - that sounds pretty perfect right now.”

3 Keeping Up With Appearances

Doria will also have to understand the importance of always keeping up with appearances. So far, she’s done an excellent job of impressing everyone with her royal and classy style at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. And while she’s gotten plenty of praise for holding her own, there were critics out there that thought she should have done something better with her hair or at least taken out her nose ring in front of the Queen of England. But that didn’t seem to bother Doria Ragland too much. She was there to support her daughter, and not to impress anyone else. As much Doria will want to stay true to herself, she’ll soon realize that it won’t always be easy getting along with the royals. After all, they are used to having it “their way or the highway” for centuries now. No one is an exception.

Meghan once told The Huffington Post, “There will always be a reason as to why you can't make it work, or why there isn't enough time, but at the end of the day if they are passion projects then you find the time to make them work. You juggle it all, and then make sure you practice self care - whether that means meditation or massage or just a nap. You have to take care of yourself so you can manage the workload of a very very full plate.”

2 Worrying About The Future

Right now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are living in complete bliss. They are royal newlyweds and are enjoying every single moment they are sharing with one another. But it’s not always going to be like this. Prince Harry and Meghan’s marriage won’t always look this perfect, and it won’t always be smooth sailing. And that’s what probably worries Doria the most. She knows that there is plenty of turbulence ahead, especially considering the fact that their marriage will always be in the public spotlight. It all depends on how Meghan will handle the turbulence and if she will let it get the best of her that will determine their future. But with love, anything is possible, right? And so far, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have plenty of it. Right now, all they need to do is support one another, take things one day at a time, and of course, roll with the punches.

According to Brainy Quotes, Meghan once said, “With fame comes opportunity, but in my opinion, it also includes responsibility - to advocate and share, to focus less on glass slippers and more on pushing through glass ceilings and, if I'm lucky enough, then to inspire.”

1 Living In a New Bubble

When you are a part of the British royal family, you might as well be living in a royal bubble. For Meghan Markle, life as she once knew it just won’t be the same. There are a lot of changes that she has had to make, and more to come.

She won’t be able to do or say things that she once enjoyed when she still had her freedom. That’s because as a royal, it’s not up to you to make your own decisions.

She’ll have to learn how to conform, whether she likes it or not. And for Doria, she knows that this might be a problem. Meghan has always been very independent and headstrong. She might not be willing to take instructions from someone else for very long.

But then again, Meghan has always been passionate about making the world a better place through her charity work. That is one thing that definitely won’t change anytime soon.

Meghan told Dot News back in 2015, “The work that I’m doing with the UN is so grounding in an industry where it’s all First Class and hair and makeup and glam; there’s something really great about having a balance. I’m fortunate that I grew up in this industry so I have a level head about it, but I do think that it’s really nice to be able to have something that balances it all.”
