10 Ways Meghan Has Been Inspired By Kate’s Parenting

When it comes to Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, no one knows what is really going on behind palace doors. One day there are reports that say they are feuding along with their husbands, Prince William and Prince Harry. The next moment they are all smiles at a public event.

With that being said, if there is one person that Meghan Markle can rely on right now as she tries to navigate her new life as a royal mother, it’s definitely her sister-in-law. The Duchess of Cambridge has been raising her royal babies in the spotlight for six years now. Here are ten different ways that Meghan has already taken a page out of Kate’s parenting book.

10 Don’t Isolate Yourself

If there’s one person who knows just how lonely life can be behind palace doors, it’s Kate Middleton. That’s why she’s been encouraging other mothers to get out there, mingle with other moms and ask for help if it’s needed. And that’s exactly what Meghan has been doing. Even though she’s on her maternity leave, she’s still out and about in public. According to Romper, Kate said, "It is lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated. But actually, so many other mothers are going through what you are going through, but it’s being brave enough to actually reach out."

9 The Kids Come First

During Kate Middleton’s first year as a parent, my royal fans noticed that she often canceled her royal engagements and public appearances. Sometimes she didn’t even agree to some of the events she was scheduled for unless it helped accommodate her family. Simply put, Kate Middleton has shown the world time and time again that her kids always come first. And that’s something Meghan Markle has kept in mind, too. It’s all about that work and family balance, right? Sure, she wants to help make the world a better place, but she also doesn’t want to neglect her children in the meantime, nor should she.

8 Give Kids Space

Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t what you would really call helicopter parents but they certainly aren’t free-range parents, either. They’ve managed to find a middle ground when it comes to how they are raising their kids. They want to give them their space, but are also keeping a good eye on them and not let them wander off too far! Clearly, Meghan Markle has this same mission with her baby boy, Archie Harrison, too. According to Romper, Kate said, "It is our duty, as parents and as teachers, to give all children the space to build their emotional strength and provide a strong foundation for their future."

7 Hands-On Parenting

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very much what you would call hands-on parents. In fact, many parenting experts noticed that both William and Kate like to bend down to their children’s levels and speak or listen to them, eye-to-eye. They want their kids to know that they will always be there and present, no matter where they are or what they need. It’s without a doubt that Meghan Markle has been taking notes because she plans on being hands on with Archie, too. She’s already begun so by choosing not to have a full-time nanny until she goes back to work.

6 Talk Their Feelings Out

Sure, the royal family might have a reputation of being stiff and rigid, but thankfully Princess Diana changed all that the moment she popped on to the scene. Kate Middleton has managed to follow in her footsteps and is now encouraging her kids to talk out their feelings, regardless of what it’s about or how they feel.

For the Duchess, it’s all about giving your kids emotional support. Kate once said (via Romper): "We hope to encourage George and Charlotte to speak about their feelings, and to give them the tools and sensitivity to be supportive peers to their friends as they get older. We know there is no shame in a young child struggling with their emotions or suffering from a mental illness."

5 What It Feels Like To Be A Mom

Yes, Kate Middleton is on the way to becoming the future Queen Consort of England. But if there’s one role that’s very important to her in her life, it’s her role as a mother. And sure enough, the Duchess of Sussex most likely feels the same way, now that she’s a mom to her son Archie Harrison. Kate Middleton has said in the past (via Romper): "Nothing can really prepare you for you the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother. It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love, and worry all mixed together."

4 Kindness, Respect, And Honesty

For Kate Middleton, it’s very important for her to teach her kids to treat other people how they would want to be treated, too. Even though they are a part of the royal family, that doesn’t mean that they need to treat other people as if their opinions or work doesn’t matter. Kate knows that kindness goes a long way.

And from what we’ve seen from Meghan Markle so far, she’s definitely on the same page as her sister-in-law. "My parents taught me about the importance of qualities like kindness, respect, and honesty. I realize how central values like these have been to me throughout my life,” Kate once said, according to Romper.

3 Show The Public What They Want

For both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, they know that there is a fine line between showing the public what they want and protecting their children’s privacy. If there is one thing that the royal family hates, it’s when the media and the paparazzi get too close to the royal kids. That’s why Prince William and Kate Middleton have taken matters into their own hands by controlling what the public gets to see and what they don’t get to see my releasing their own photos of their family. And it looks like Meghan is doing the same thing with Archie Harrison on social media, too.

2 Being A Mom First, A Royal Second

Both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle like to keep their loved ones close – and their children even closer. Kate has proven to the world that even though she’s married to the Future King of England, she’s a mom first and a royal second. Meghan has noticed this and has been following in Kate’s footsteps by re-writing some of the royal parenting rules, too. For example, she didn’t pose with her baby at the hospital after giving birth. Instead, she did what was best for her and her baby at the time by giving it a few days before she was ready to make her world debut with Archie.

1 They Want To Keep The Cousins Close

Even though both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex are high-profiled public figures and royal members of the royal family, they both agree that parenting is definitely something that is far different than what they would have ever expected. Thankfully, Meghan has Kate to lean on. Seeing how their children are close in age, they are going to make sure they grow up together as cousins. Little Archie already had his first play date with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at their father’s polo match outside of London earlier this year. We have a feeling there will be many more play dates to come!
