The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has decided to go against royal tradition and choose her own team for her upcoming labor and delivery. Against the Queen's wishes, the Duchess, a known feminist, would like to have her birth team led by females to steer clear of 'men in suits'. This bold decision was a shock to some but many were not surprised given Meghan's portrayed and admired independence from what the Royal family declares necessity.

The Duchess has gone against tradition in that Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston, lead gynecologists for the Royals, will not be a part of the birth. That being said, Metro clarifies that "the Queen's doctors will still be on hand if something goes wrong during the birth, as they cannot be excluded completely due to Royal protocol". The source continues to report that this decision will cost the Royals tens of thousands of dollars, whereas the Queen's doctors work without charge (reportedly for the honor of serving the Royals and the image it brings to other rich potential patients). Another source told Metro that "the doctors were ‘the best of the best’ and said they would have had a ‘very limited’ role in the birth if everything went to plan".

Not only does the Duchess want to choose her own people to help in her birth, but rumor has it that both Meghan and Harry will be choosing a hospital closer to their Windsor home, rather than the Lindo wing at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington where many Royals have delivered their babies, including Kate Middleton. According to Express, Meghan may be enlisting the help of a doula for support and guidance through the birth as well.

Some people disagree with the Duchess's actions given her role and place in the Royal family, whereas some believe it is her birth and her baby, so therefore she should have a say in the birth plan. We are unsure what the Queen has to say about all of this but the more we know of the Duchess, the more we are confident that unless something goes wrong, she will have the birth that she wants to have; not letting her title decide for her.
