Celebrated actress Meryl Streep has had a whole lot to celebrate over the years. She is one of the most decorated and successful entertainers of our time. Her movies become blockbuster giants, her speeches go viral, and her fashion is timeless, classic and the envy of women everywhere.
All of these fantastic accomplishments pale in comparison to the new role that Streep is about to undertake, however. Ms. Meryl is about to become a first-time grandma thanks to her daughter Mamie Gummer! That's right. There will be a child our there in the universe who actually gets to say, "My Grammie is Meryl-freaking-Streep."
The soon-to-be first-time mother, Mamie, is the eldest child of Streep and her husband, Don Gummer. The pair has three other children that will hopefully add to their grandchildren accumulation in the years to come. Son Henry Wolfe is 33, and daughters Grace and Louisa are 32 and 27 respectively. While Meryl herself is indeed a recognizable face to many, Mamie might ring a bell as well. She starred alongside her mother in the film Ricki and the Flash as well as in several television dramas including The Good Wife, The Good Fight, C.W.'s Emily Owens M.D., and the thriller Side Effects.
Mamie and her child's father Mehar Sethi got engaged back in August while vacationing in Croatia. Sethi is best known for his work on "The Mick" and "Bojack Horseman." Prior to this relationship, Gummer was hitched to actor Benjamin Walker for two years whom she met on the set of the play Dangerous Liaisons in 2008. They went their separate ways in 2013.
While Meryl will be new to the role of Grandma, she has had a bit of practice playing one on the silver screen. She is set to play Grannie to Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skaarsgard's children in the HBO drama Big Little Lies and brought the character of family matriarch Violet to life in the 2015 flick August Osage County. Considering Meryl's penchant for keeping her family life private as well as the tales of what a great mother she was while raising her brood in New England, we highly doubt Ms. Meryl will be anything but a top-notch grandmother. Congrats to the entire Gummer clan as they celebrate the gift of life this holiday season.
