Michelle Williams is now a mom times two! The actress and her husband Thomas Kail have welcomed their first child together, making the actress a mother-of-two. So far, the couple have not commented on the arrival of their child nor revealed the infant’s name or sex. But a source confirmed the news to Us Weekly, saying mom and baby are both doing great.
It wasn’t known that Michelle and Thomas were together until December 2019 when they not only revealed their engagement but announced they were expecting. Thomas, known for his time spent directing Hamilton, originally met the actress when they worked together on Fosse/Verdon, in which he directed and she acted. Then, in March, it was reported the two tied the knot in secret. This came after a source told Us Weekly the parents-to-be hoped to have wed before their baby arrived, so the quick nuptials weren’t that surprising at all.
Michelle famously has a daughter Mathilda, 14, whose father was late actor Heath Ledger. Michelle and Heath got together after meeting on the set of Brokeback Mountain, and though they remain together for several years, they ultimately split when their daughter was still a toddler. At the time, reports said their break-up had to do with Heath’s substance abuse problems and partying, making it less shocking when the actor then passed away of an overdose following his daughter’s third birthday. Since then, Michelle has remained very tight lipped on her personal life, for the sake of her daughter.
In January, a source confirmed that Michelle was over the moon to be expecting again. Her pregnancy news also came months after finalizing her divorce from musician Phil Elverum, whom she was wed to from 2018-2019, but it sounds like a fresh start is exactly what the celebrity needed. “Michelle fell in love,” a source told PEOPLE about her relationship with Thomas. “She is happy and fulfilled and ready for another child.” It remains unclear why Michelle’s marriage to Phil didn’t work out or if meeting her current husband while still married had anything to do with it.
It appears Michelle and Thomas may have tried to keep the news of her pregnancy under wraps even longer; they only confirmed the news after the pair were spotted shopping for baby clothes together in December. At the time, the pair were in Kensington, as Michelle was wrapping up filming for Venom 2. Shortly after the photos were published, the celebrity couple confirmed their baby news and engagement to the press. As of now, however, they remain private regarding details of their new addition.
