Mindy Kaling says Stephen Colbert’s baby gift ‘straight-up sucks’ compared to what Oprah Winfrey gave her!

Looks like Mindy has set her baby gifts list to a whole new level after receiving a spectacular gift from Oprah. Kaling, who gave birth to daughter Katherine Kaling on Dec. 15, 2017, has been receiving gifts left and right since her birth, one of which was a very thoughtful present from Oprah.

The Mindy Project star and creator is currently starring in a Disney film alongside Oprah,  A Wrinkle In Time. The actress appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this past Thursday, March 8, discussing the difficulty that comes along with balancing work, life, parenthood, and other important things - like gifts!

According to ET, Mindy jokingly told Colbert how her daughter doesn’t recognize her anymore, claiming that she says, “Who dat?” because of how busy she’s been promoting the movie. The 38-year-old confessed, “When you have a baby, you don’t necessarily know in the beginning that you’re going to be up every three hours. I’m up in the middle of the night with her, and then afterward, it’s hard to go back to sleep, so I’ll just return emails.”

Turns out the star’s sleeping schedule is so out of whack, she even gets messages in return from family and friends asking her “Hey, why did send me an e-mail at 3 a.m.?” As dedicated as Mindy is to daughter Katherine, she admitted that before even becoming a mom, she was “not a kid person” in the least. However, one perk of being a mom is getting all sorts of gifts.

Earlier this month Mindy revealed how Oprah had a U-Haul delivery truck drop of a custom made bookcase holding children’s books for her daughter, all engraved with her initials and book club title. Yikes! Try topping that. So when it came to Mindy talking about Colbert’s gift, she called it “very old-fashioned.”

The talk show host sent her a solid white newborn outfit from Pixie Lily, located in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Colbert admitted that style of the outfit was very “late 19th century”, and Mindy finally told him how she really felt about it. “If I’m crossing the Titanic with my baby, hoping for a new future for myself, this is the outfit I put her in. There’s a black and white photo of me holding my baby, hoping for a new life,” Mindy hilariously confessed.

She didn’t stop there! She continued to tell Colbert, “It straight-up-sucks compared to what Oprah gave me. And I mean that with love, okay?” Colbert took Mindy’s comment as a joke and laughed it off, claiming that he was going to get her what Oprah had given her... but she beat him to it.
