A mom has been awarded almost $4 million after her place of work didn't provide her with an appropriate place to pump breast milk.

Breastfeeding is an incredibly natural thing to do. Some of you might question why that needs to be said, much less written in an article. We completely agree with those of you who think that. However, there are far too many people out there who view the process as being very unnatural. Something that shouldn't take place in public despite that often needing to happen.

It is also required by law in the US for employers to provide female workers with a place to breastfeed/pump breast milk. Again, annoyingly, there are many examples of those measures still not being put in place. If you're an employer and this sounds all too familiar, you should probably treat this article as a cautionary tale.

Carrie Ferrera Clark is a paramedic with the Tuscon Fire Department, reports Moms. She had a baby in 2012 and when she returned to work, she needed somewhere private to pump breast milk from time to time. Carrie quickly discovered that such a place didn't exist. HR told the new mom to pump in the bedrooms. Problematic as there were firefighters sleeping in there most of the time.

Things got even more uncomfortable for Carrie as time passed. She was even accused by superiors of her pumping becoming excessive and was labeled not fit for duty. Carrie was even given less favorable assignments as she continued to seek out an answer. Eventually, the mom reached the end of her tether and sought out legal help. It may have taken a while, but that proved to be the correct course of action.

Carrie has been awarded a whopping $3.8 million for the way she was treated by her employers. Not only is that a massive win for her, but for working moms in general. Some would have understandably shied away to the bedrooms or the bathroom. Not Carrie, and hopefully the example she has set will encourage others to follow in her footsteps and force positive change.
