One mother ignited a flurry of outrage from other mothers on an online forum when she actually requested that parents pay for their children to attend her son's birthday party at a local go-kart venue.
Birthday parties naturally imply fun. They also imply free... for the guests. For the invited guests, the payment upon entry is typically a gift for the birthday boy or girl as well as good times to be shared.
But according to thesun.co.uk., one mom posted a dilemma on a site called Mumsnet telling the others moms that her son was at a new school and was happy to have been invited to a party along with all of the other students in the class. But as the mom kept getting further into the details, she found out that the party wasn't quite what it seemed to be.
Firstly, the mom of the birthday boy stated that transport would be provided but she wanted all parents to reimburse her in advance for around $24 USD per child for the 80-mile round trip.
Then, in lieu of birthday presents, the mom every so kindly insisted on Amazon vouchers instead. And of course, the hostess wouldn't dream of paying for the birthday guests' go-karting fun so she asked for the parents to shell out around $20 for go-karting deposits which would be followed up by a final payment of $30 for go-karting on the day of the party!
It doesn't end there! She also requested that each parent pack a "generous picnic with ice packs and pack extra so the birthday boy doesn't have to bring anything."
The mom who took to the forum with this strange situation was understandably put in an awkward place. While she wanted her boy to have the opportunity to make friends at his new school, she also didn't want to feel like she was put on the spot by this, shall we say, enterprising mother.
"I think this is the final straw and I’ll instead take ds [Darling Son] and a friend karting myself at this rate," the posting mother wrote.
Fellow Mumsnet users completely backed her up all the way on her decision! Readers, what do you think about this party-hosting mom who wants to charge for kids to come to her son's go-kart party? Please let us know down in the comments!
