The Top 10 Most Popular (And Least Popular) Baby Names For 2018 Have Been Revealed

It's that special time of year again where the most popular baby names are revealed for our enjoyment. The list includes the most popular, least popular, and trendiest names of 2018. Take note expecting parents!

Popular mom and baby site Baby Center released their annual list revealing that the number one most popular name for girls was Sophia and Jackson for boys. Sophia means wisdom and is of Greek origin. Jackson is Hebrew and means, quite literally, son of Jack. Both of these names have a simple, classic sound which is consistent for the complete top 10 lists for both boys and girls.

Olivia, Emma, Ava, Isabella, Aria, Riley, Amelia, Mia, and Layla also make the top 10 on the most popular girl's list, while Liam, Noah, Aiden, Caden, Grayson, Lucas, Mason, Oliver, and Elijah round out the top 10 boy's list. These will be the names of all of your children's friends and the kids in school who will have to use their last initial to be identified. If popular names aren't your thing, Baby Center did us all a favor and also published the least popular names of the year.

Emerson is the least popular girl name of 2018 and was joined by Quinn, Alaina, Julia,  Jocelyn,  Jocelyn, Vivian, Delilah, Willow, Allison, and London.  The least popular boy's name of the year was Weston along with Declan, Xander, Jason, Theodore, Micah, Johnathan, Rowan, Austin, and Evan. The list also tracked trendy, somewhat unusual names.

Inspired by the Kardashian baby boom, Kylie Jenner's pick for her baby girl, Stormi, rose 63 percent. Names associated with nature and tranquility were also more popular this year. The name Peace was up 66 percent for girls Harmony and Hope both saw small gains.

Fern increased by 55 percent on the boy's list while Ocean rose by 31 percent. Food lovers should also consider these somewhat odd yet adorable names like Kiwi, Clementine, or Maple for girls or Sage for boys.
