In Spain, a woman in Cerdanyola del Vallès in Barcelona attempted to push her way past supermarket staff after she was caught shoplifting by ramming her baby stroller into the employees who confronted her. A video captured the mother as she tried to flee while her baby screamed.

The middle-aged woman had hidden stolen prawns, sausages, oil olive, and numerous other items under her child in an effort to elude the supermarket workers. When they confronted her, she began ramming the stroller into them as well as slapping and fighting them, ignoring her baby’s screams. At one point, she grabbed a female supermarket employee by the throat.

While one of the employees attempted to call the police, the woman slapped him and violently pushed the stroller. The shocking video, which was filmed on Wednesday, has gone viral since it was posted online. After ramming more than half a dozen employees, she began fighting with them as they blocked the exit while her teenage daughter tried to hold her back. She eventually fled after the staff backed down, fearing for the child’s wellbeing.

In the end, the woman’s daughter unloaded most of the stolen goods onto the floor. According to the Spanish newspaper 20Minutos, the supermarket reported the incident to the police, but it is unclear if the woman has been arrested.

If detained, the woman would face repercussions for her assault. Under Spanish law, non-violent theft of amounts under €400 is not covered by the criminal code, however, she could face jail time for assault although it is unlikely. Prison sentences in Spain are mostly imposed in cases of violent crime or domestic violence.
