My Sister-In-Law Is Getting Married Today!

Today is my sister-in-law's wedding day and it's going to be a perfectly beautiful day. The lighting outside is perfect for pictures and the venue is going to look spiffy. Of course, my sister-in-law, Stephanie, looks amazing! This wedding is a real family affair - something I appreciate as a mom of two. She never once made me feel like my kids weren't welcome. Now, if it's your wedding - you invite who you want. But I really love that Colbert weddings are such exuberant celebrations with everyone of all ages.

At the reception, we are expecting about 25 kids under the age of eighteen. Since it's a garden party theme, we packed games that are specifically appealing to the younger folks. But while the theme is a little non-traditional, there are a lot of great family histories that we do during big events. One of these traditions is a family sing-along. The Colbert family sings a tune called, "Today" - I think it might be an Irish thing, since they're all very Irish folks. I'll include the full lyrics at the end of this post.

One of the things that's so special about this wedding is that everyone in bridal party is married. Stephanie and Jason are beginning their marriage surrounded by people who have been there - and who will cheer for them to have a happy and healthy relationship. My advice is this: never invite criticism from anyone who will put the individual's wants before the couple's needs. Someone once told me that true love isn't staring contentedly into each other's eyes. It's looking out at the world together through the same lens. Sharing a vision. Sharing a goal. Sharing your biggest dreams. Marriage should be the safest place for you to be honest about your biggest fears and to chase them as a team and cheer one another on. I've only been married for five years, but they've easily been the best five years of my life.

Here's to Stephanie, Jason, and a beautiful and blessed lifetime of love together!

"Today"

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine A million tomorrows shall all pass away 'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

I'll be a dandy, and I'll be a rover You'll know who I am by the songs that I sing I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover Who cares what tomorrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine A million tomorrows shall all pass away 'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

I can't be contented with yesterday's glory I can't live on promises winter to spring Today is my moment, now is my story I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine A million tomorrows shall all pass away 'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine A million tomorrows shall all pass away 'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today.
