The most popular baby names for 2019 has so far caught a lot of people by surprise. And that’s not because they are off the grid names, but because they are surprisingly different than compared to some of the top names of recent years.
According to the popular baby name generator Nameberry, two rather refreshingly different names have taken the top spots for 2019: Posie for the girl’s list and Milo as the number one name for boys.
Nameberry co-creator and CEO Pamela Redmond Satran says that there are just two names that parents might want to keep up with, in the coming years. The site has released their top names for 2019 so far, although it can easily change in the coming months. The site’s formula measures the names that have attracted the most interest from site visitors that click on potential baby names every day. Nameberry has so far gotten 11 million page views and counting this year.
Satran explained to USA Today, “The names at the top of Nameberry's list are those that have a good chance of getting a lot hotter over the next few years.”
But when it comes to Posie and Milo, when comes as a complete surprise, while the other one doesn’t. Satran further says that Posie was a name that she hasn’t seen anywhere else, and especially in recent times. Milo, however, has gained a lot of popularity thanks to Hollywood actor and This is Us star, Milo Ventimiglia.
Satran also says that Nameberry not only keeps up with the most recent trends, but that the site also does a good job of picking out names for the future. This can help parents search for stylish names if they want to keep up with the times while making real-time naming decisions.
"They often want to know not how popular Cora WAS but how popular it's going to be in the future," she said. "Will their little Cora be one of three in her kindergarten class? Will Cora get so popular it might be the Jennifer or Ashley of the future, or will it retain the unique quality that makes it appealing now?"
Posie replaces the name Olivia, which has sat on the top of the charts for the past few years now. Milo, meanwhile, replaces Atticus as the number one boy’s name of the year.
