Lisa Bonet was apparently fired from The Cosby Show spin-off due to her being pregnant. Allegedly Bill Cosby, who played her father in the show, was the one to give her the boot.
The actress is known for her role as Denise Huxtable on the hit sitcom series and played the character for a majority of the shows running. Bonet went on to have her first daughter, Zoe Kravitz, with then husband, musician Lenny Kravitz. Now the actress is married to former Game of Thrones actor, Jason Momoa, with whom she has 2 other children.
According to Page Six, Bonet's ex-husband, Lenny Kravitz, wrote in his recent memoir, "Let Love Rule", that Cosby fired Bonet from The Cosby Show spin-off, A Different World, after she told him she was pregnant in 1988. Kravitz went on to explain that Bonet and producer, Debbie Allen, called for a meeting with Cosby, and immediately he knew why the meeting was occurring. Allegedly Cosby asked Bonet, "You’re here to tell me you’re pregnant, aren’t you?” It seems Allen and Bonet came up with a storyline for her character to raise her child on her own with the help of her friends. Clearly the disgraced-comic did not like this idea but agreed to sit on it and let them know. A few days went by and Cosby decided that even though Bonet was pregnant, her character, Denise Huxtable, is not. Cosby then fired Bonet from the spin-off after just one season on the show. Although he did allow Bonet to reprise her role on The Cosby Show, she ultimately left in 1991 due to creative differences and did not appear in the season finale. “But from then on, her relationship with Bill was tense and ultimately untenable,” Kravitz writes of Bonet and Cosby's relationship.
Bonet is now mainly out of the acting world in the last 10 years or so since having her two children with Jason Momoa. The couple began a relationship in 2005 but didn't get married until 12 years later in 2017. They share 1 boy and 1 girl together. Their son was born in December of 2008 and their daughter was born in July of 2007. Bonet also shares a daughter with Kravitz, Zoe Kravitz, who has come into fame as well. Many may know her from her role as Bonnie Carlson in the hit HBO series, Big Little Lies.
Bonet may have not been able to continue her role in A Different World, but she got the best gift in the world, a baby girl.
