Twenty-seven-year-old former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson is pregnant with her first child with NFL hubby Andrew East and the two are making it clear that they are just happy to be expecting their first baby – with zero athletic expectations.
Johnson recently told People that, "So many people expect our baby to be an athlete that they'll probably be an artist or a musician or something."
It makes sense that so many people would be betting that Johnson and East's baby would hit the genetic jackpot for athletic gifts. Johnson won four medals during the 2008 Summer Olympics with the U.S. women's gymnastics team in Beijing before charming America when she won her season of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2009.
But then again, their baby might be athletic as Johnson did comment to People, "I don’t know how our baby won’t be competitive because of our competitive nature."
To her point, the mother-to-be actually missed her own high school prom in order to compete (and ultimately win!) "Dancing with the Stars." That's pretty competitive!
Not to be outdone, her husband, East has played for many NFL teams such as the Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins (the team he currently plays for as a long snapper).
Johnson and East went public with the news that they were expecting in April. They also revealed that they had suffered a miscarriage via Instagram. The couple has been very open with the health issues that their baby has faced so far including a two-vessel cord which requires monitoring.
Johnson goes in for ultrasounds often and says that her baby is doing well - "so far, so good and we celebrate every day." The couple constantly gets questions about the baby. People want to know if the baby is a boy or a girl, if they parents will put the baby in gymnastics or football. But neither Johnson nor East cares about their baby playing pro football or winning gold medals for their country. They just want a healthy bundle of joy and will consider a family of three victorious.
Congratulations, Shawn and Andrew!
